I rode the bus past by the site and it looks fucked up. All the glass is shattered in the nearby stores.

Nope... police have confirmed, it was deliberate. Witnesses placed someone running from the scene and discarding burning clothing (coat and balaclava) that were subsequently recovered by police.
The fire inspector they interviewed indicated someone probably tried to use an accelerant to start a fire and it blew up on them, which is very possible - our motor shop instructor in Jr. high told us once that the vapors alone in an empty 2 gallon gas can had the explosive potential of a 1/4-stick of dynamite.
A friend of mine who works near there says they've been trying to sell that store for about six months, so yeah, insurance scam seems likely. She was rather upset about losing her usual Starbucks

VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - Investigators at the scene of the explosion on west Broadway this morning say it was arson.
Constable Tim Fanning says an accelerant was used inside the Taco Del Mar restaurant.
“I can't tell you what type of accelerant was used. Of course there's a lot of forensic work to be done. On an arson investigation it's very very scientific so they have to go through all the evidence, use science labs and there is a lot of science based information that they have to go through.”
Building owners will be allowed back into the area this afternoon.
One witness reported seeing someone running up the alley behind the Taco Del Mar after the fire started around 2:30 this morning.
A security guard also reported seeing someone running away from the scene shortly after the fire and explosion.
