Yeah I probably will end u hanging onto the N82 for a while..
I cant sell it :p

The G800 is REALLY nice, and solid as a rock, but there's no 640*480 vid recording, and the battery specs on gsmarena arent the greatest. For such a thick phone, I'd expect a beefier battery.
Plus no 850mhz..There's alot of little things I dont like that add up, but I'm sure it wont bother some people.

How you liking your N82?

albert116 01-17-2008 01:45 PM

I like my N82 a lot...I think i can really settle down with it...

But i am experiencing some creaks with the housing itself. The Built felt great the day I got it brand new, but since then i have been noticing some creaks at various parts of the housing. Are you experiencing the same thing?

!Yaminashi 01-17-2008 01:52 PM

I have a little click sound around the "c" key, and when I press right on the dpad, but no substantial creaking..

Where are your creaks?

albert116 01-17-2008 02:02 PM

I have a creak on the charger port, when i apply light pressure on it.

and there are creaks when i press down on the '1' key, and '4' key.

I also get little click sounds around the memory card slot cover, when i apply light pressure on it.

It doesn't bug me that much...but i hope there won't be any more creaks that develops over time.

I dont think any creaks will develop, as long as you dont drop it and throw it around :p

I can't think of any phone I've had in the last 6 months that didnt have some sort of light clicking sound or slight creak

albert116 01-17-2008 02:27 PM

Yup, i baby my phones...never drop it or throw it around!

I think out of all my recent phones, the iPhone has the best built quality..lol...it's just solid.

But isnt the iphone almost like 1 solid piece?
Plus there arent many moving parts, so of course there isnt much that can creak :p

albert116 01-17-2008 02:51 PM

^

heh...that's true

But it still has a very heavy and solid feel to it, which i like.

I think you can knock somebody out if you swing the iphone towards someone's head...lol

:)

+Kardboard+ 01-21-2008 10:54 AM

Hmm, HTC-sourced devices are probably a good bet. There's Palm too, which still has a special place in my heart (:)), but unfortunately they haven't really updated their OS in seven years so they're more or less a write-off, despite having a very well-designed system and all that.

What are you looking to do with a smartphone?

JKam 01-21-2008 08:55 PM

Ok I have THREE dilemmas. please oh wise ones help me. If you don't want to read it skip to the bottom for coles notes.

FIRST
I'm having a hard time deciding between TyTN 2 and Tom Cruise.

TyTN2 side
- its available already and some used ones are on the market for ~$700
- qwerty keypad

Tom Cruise
- a little lighter
- will retail for less roughly ~$700 (taking online prices)

I don't know if I have enough willpower to wait until February to get the Cruise but I don't know if I want to bite the bullet and buy a new TyTN2 (because all the tytn2 sellers are either assholes or the deals get swept up really fast) or if I should wait for touch Cruise.

uses
I will be MAINLY using this device as:
- PDA to remember my appts and when hw is due
- GPS in car
- maybe a multimedia device depending on my other situation

My reason for choosing this is because i NEED something FAST. So I need to pick ONE. I'm itching to spend.

SECOND
Ok. Second dilemma. I might keep BOTH whatever HTC I get and my k850. Although I see little point in it. I'm hopefully selling or trading it away for something along the lines of N82/N81/N95-3 because it's just nice to stay in the hobby if you guys know what I mean.

So either way I would prefer to carry two devices. A PDA and a dedicated phone. OK here comes the dilemma.

uses
Should I get the HTC phones or get a dedicated PDA? The only one I am currently interested in is the ASUS A696 because 1. It's slim 2. It's Fast 3. its WM6 and 4. It has GPS built in.

That by itself is roughly $500 from dell.ca.... Are there any other WM6 PDA's you guys can recommend?

THIRD
N81 vs N82 vs N95-3 vs N96
ok I miss nokia so I'm going to sell off my k850 cheap soon.

uses
Most important to me is(in order):
1. a cool phone
2. multimedia
3. texting
4. price.

N81
is the cheapest but it is also built the cheapest. I mainly need something for the car and for everyday mp3 for an hour or so. It has the neat navi wheel and very few people actually have it (in comparison to n82/n95). It also has the worst built quality but second best texting out of the 3 (that are avail)

N82
music is probably the same as N81, a little more expensive but a non-desirable color. Most likely to get this used off here. Has a good camera but I won't need it/use it often. Has GPS but I won't use it because it sucks just like N95. Candybar form which I like but keypad stinks.

N95
Had N95 before so this will just be another upgrade from it. Not sure how i'll like it though. A little too much for my budget.

N96
seems to combine my N82 vs N81 desires but not sure on build quality or when it will be released. Not keen on waiting.

Please help me choose one.

COLES NOTES
ok so heres coles notes for those who don't want to read.

1. Touch cruise VS TyTN2
- TyTN is readily avail.
- Touch Cruise will be cheaper and neater to use
- tytn is too expensive brand new and used sellers are assholes
- cruise will probably be avail with locals in feb.

Pick one.

2. dedicated pda vs HTC pda
- dedicated pda is already about $500
- HTC can double as a phone if I decide to sell dedicated phone
- more support with HTC
- not many WM6 PDA's with GPS

help me choose.

3. N81 vs N82 vs N95 vs N96

Again, help me choose

These devices are what I'm deciding to take a break with from Cellphone whoring so I HAVE to make the right decision here.

!Yaminashi 01-21-2008 09:36 PM

I've decided to settle with N82 for a while :D

albert116 01-21-2008 09:44 PM

Yeah, i have decided to take a break from cell phone whoring and have decided to settle down with the N82 as well....So far so good. It's feature packed enough to keep me entertained. So i say go with the N82. I heard N81 has better music quality than both the N82 and N95...so keep that in mind.

I would definitely get a HTC pda instead of a dedicated PDA. I don't want to carry a PDA around on top of the phone, just too cumbersome. I'd rather have a do it all device like the Tytn2 or Cruise.

And I would take the Tytn2 over the Cruise....reason being is i don't really like how the Cruise look. and i think the slide out tilted keyboard is pretty cool.
