Now, say if I wanted to spend like 300-500, what would be the thing to do? Basically, I want to do something short of a full exhaust, but I don't want to have to redo anything when I do get a full exhaust, which realistically won't be for several months.
ok heres what you can do.. youve heard mine now.. i have header - straight pipe - muffler.. its decent loud.. if you want something quieter then get smaller tip.. you have a few options

get RB header about $200 to your door.. get pipe made to a single muffler "its cheeper" or just keep stock mufflers but you wont notive much gain with them.. plus they weigh 50 pounds each!!

goto www.rx7.net and buy there "race pipe" has a scilencer in it and it only costs like $110 and it has a great sound and then just get 2 or 1 muffler and any shop should be able to bend you up some pipe.. I would reccomend Rick at sidney Tire downtown.. hes dumb but does good work.. tell him what you want done and he'll do it.. get 2.5" pipe though..

i would say go with headers right away and dont have to do it again.. go with single setup with 2.5" pipe to a SS packed muffler with a 3" tip.. you can get nice ones with a scilencer at Lordco downtown..

Hey! I don't know how the hell I missed this great reply, but thank you!!!

Okay, so I'll get an RB header, where do I get it from? You figure 200 to the door, is that Canadian? Then do I need to get his pipe from www.rx7.com:

EX810625 Bönez 2.5" Race Pipe with Presilencer (86-88 5-speed only) $160

And then get a muffler?

Do you think I'll notice much difference with an RB header and the rest of my exhaust stock?

there was 2 options there..

1. get a header.. (yes 200CAD to door) check RB.. buy a muffler and get a shop to bend you up a system.. this is what i have now and am very pleased.. www.racingbeat.com

2. goto www.rx7.com and get there race pipe.. this replaces your cats and goes to your y-pipe.. it leave the stock manafold which is restrictive.. and leaves the small pipes back to the mufflers..

i would go with 1... more Hp.. cheeper in the long run.. and i am sure youll be happy with that

Another header you could look at is Mindtrain. They used to be really good.If I didn't have a brand new RB one I would buy the one this local guy here has for sale.I can't remember what price he wanted for it but I hear mindtrain used to be really good.

Hey Timpo, it's obvious you really really like RX7s (as do I).

I'm sure you've been asked this a lot...but if you like the FD so much, why'd you sell your car?? Why didn't you just fix the problems?

What do you drive now? Planning on getting another FD?
