I have the Garmin Nuvi 250. Pretty happy with it, but sometimes I'd wish that it has the text to speech option since I still missed some turns when I don't look at the screen. If you want that TTS option, check out the Nuvi 260, should still be cheaper than the Nuvi 350/360.

Yeah go with the Nuvi 260 if you want the text to speech option. It's funny to give dirty names to places and hear the female voice say it!

I work at Futureshop in the car audio department, and I believe that if you're looking for simplicity and easy to use GPS's, go for the 250W, it's for sale at $229.99 which is an awesome deal considering they were selling for $279.99 on boxing day sale. The 250W has a couple of small problems, the points of interests are outdated, and a lot of addresses in Langley just don't work.

Tomtom uses TeleAtlas maps (in comparing with the Navteq in Garmins) and as far as I've seen when using my Tomtom 720, it is much more accurate. The maps are much more updated in Canada, especially in Lower Mainland compared to Garmin maps. The only problem with Tomtom, is that it is a little harder to use, there's way too many buttons for something that you're using while driving. Also, yes, they seem to have a higher defective rate.

Tomtom XL-S has text to speech for 269.99 on sale right now, which is also a pretty good deal, considering Garmin 260W with text to speech is 449.99. If you plan on buying the 260W, I'd recommend the Tomtom 720, which has much more features (bluetooth, FM transmitter, and better map, and mapshare [for map editing])

Garmin did not say anything about free updates for 2009 maps, but they did offer free 2008 Map updates for any units purchased after May 2007. So I believe that they will most probably do something like that for the 2009 Update when it does come out.

Anyone bought a Sony GPS?? If so how do you like it so far?

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...=n32150n100255

I believe it uses the same mapping as Garmin!! I see it for only $299 at bestbuy and it has Text to Speech and it is a 4.3 widescreen. Pretty good price for those features.

It is a good deal if you don't mind the 3.5 LCD screen compare to the newer models with 4.3 Widescreen.

ive got the 680 and im very happy with it. Its a very useful tool when i'm traveling to the states. The only downside i can think of is the gas prices it displays are all stations located in Washington state. I go to the states a couple times a month so its not a completely useless feature. If you have any questions just pm me and ill try and help you out.

If you registered on myGarmin, then you should see the map update on there if you log in and look for updates.

Like hk2000 said...there are "alternate" places to get it from.

That being said, I use a nuvi360 (now with the 2009 maps)

Works great where I've used it so far (locallly in YVR, WA, CO, HI, CA). Garmin units supposedly have better routing capabilities than the Tom Tom's (supposedly because of the NavTeq maps vs the TeleAtlas maps on the Tom Tom's).

FWIW, Canadian Tire will have the Garmin Nuuvi 200 for $170 starting on Friday... I don't even need a GPS, and I'm tempted to pick one up - under $200 for a Garmin is a good deal, in my books...

not a heck of a lot. Probably just more features that it offers such as bigger screens, more sensitive GPS receivers, and other add on gadgets and features like Bluetooth Integration, Text to Speech, etc. Also I'm sure the mapping software and routing software is different between brands so it'll probably make a bit of difference there too.

Enough to justify a 2-300% difference? I guess that depends on the person.

Anyone have the Garmin 880? I'm thinking of getting it. Voice recognition is pretty important to me and I read in reviews that it's the best out there right now.
