I guess I had a different experience with black and blue..

The service was great and accommodating cause they made us wait 45 minutes for our table so they comped us some appies.

But the food wasn't that great. Our steak came out well done when we asked for mid rare.... And the sides were mediocre. The tomahawk steak was really good though.

I would of preferred gothams or hy's instead.

Why is it $1.30/$1.40 at Lido? That seems to be one odd (and high) of a number.
That's like a +20% increase to an average customer's meal for few pieces of ice....

I think ever since they won the HSBC Chinese Food Award or whatever it is for Best HK Milk Tea, they decided to tack on a major premium for ice.

LOL those hsbc awards are probably rigged. Lido is probably one of their customers therefore they got the award. I never trusted those hsbc award things

cant rmb if its $1.3 or $1.40 to change to a cold drink with a meal (thats how expensive it is). They think their drinks are superior to others when they arent

Yes, I personally quite enjoy Alleluia's milk tea but only when that angry looking lady who works at night is there. The milk tea in the daytime is not as good.

I don't think there is a "standard" for milk tea, even in HK. Each cafe will have their house blend of teas and recipe of ratio for tea, ice, water, milk and sugar etc.

Cattle Cafe Vancouver

0/10

Entire establishment reeked of the washroom cleaning chemicals and was strangely colder inside than it was outside even with all the wind. Service was minimal at best as our server took our order and gave us our bill without so much as a word. Gf's red bean slush tasted like a giant glass of milk with the slightest hint of red bean flavour. My lychee slush was overly sweet.

Two places which happen to be neighbours but visited on separate days:

Cockney Kings New West (takeout)- 8.5/10. Best I've tried in the lower mainland. GF things salmon at Pajo's was better.

Burger Heaven- 6/10. Went due to various recommendations. Had a 2 for 1 coupon that you see in the local newspapers. Tried the buffalo, gf had the normal burger. Toppings were great and balanced in the buffalo burger, but the normal burger was a mess. Overall it was very meh.

really 1.40 stops you from buying shit?

I can't tell if that wreaks of cheapness or sticking it to the business.

don't forget, its $1.40+ tax+ tips for a drink that doesnt even "wow" you after drinking it. You can get it free from Alleluia with a meal and you can even get a refill as well.

Lido doesnt even allow refills even if you add the extra $1.40 They prob think their ice milk tea is made of gold

I like Lido for exactly the Satay beef noodles, ice/hot milk tea + pineapple bun with butter.

But I agree to get the cold drink where it's +1.40 + tax + tips that's almost $2 just to have it as a cold drink.

Where most Chinese Style HK restaurants included it for free.

Curry House (not sure the name but it's the stall that sells curry and street car noodles) at Parker Place

Order my lunch witch consisted of Curry Beef Brisket and Tendon on Rice and free soup for $6.50 tax in.

Curry was good! Good portion with a perfect ratio of beef and tendon. This place uses the tendon cut (with meet stuck on it) so it's not as fatty as the finger meat. 9/10
Free soup (Carrot + Daikon): tasted like how mom makes it at home 9/10

Curry is acquired taste as it's the generic curry tumeric powder flavour - not the thai or malaysian kind. What I like about it is these guys put effort into the dish cause the beef and tendon was very tender. Some places don't spend enough time to stew it and it ends up tasting like rubber.

I took a look into the kitchen and I'm said to say this stall may not be there for very much longer - all the staff are in their 50-60's another 5-10 year's it's retirement and sellout of the stall and the taste and recipe may not be the same.

For places that sell's the $4-6 breakfast special (it's more like their blue plate special) where they probably make 2-3 bucks per plate and count on volume.

Some places are starting to get pricey imo like Lido and Gloucester - mind you the food taste good but year after year they just jack up the prices.
