If you don't like the game, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE THREAD we all know you don't like it. now let us discuss the game in peace.

Just finished the game. The last act game + cutscenes were fucking EPIC.

My god...it was so well done.

Finally, someone who wants to talk about the game, rather than trying to stroke my e-peen.

I LOVE this game, particularly the 2nd act. If they can make a full game using that mechanic, it has the potential to be a Game of the Year contender.

I've played through the first 2 acts THREE times now, and the first act FOUR times, all using different tactics. I tried to get through without killing anyone, but my progress was cut short due to design flaws (at one point, Meryl jumped in front of my while shooting, and at another point I happened to be walking by an enemy spawn point right when new enemies spawned).

I was talking to Hyde last night about how great it would be if they remade MGS1 using this new engine... those who beat the game will realize why. As much as I'd love to play through all the old games to 'catch up' I think the poor controls would cause them to be unenjoyable.

raygunpk 06-23-2008 02:23 AM

MGS1 is the only one I've played and beat. Seems like I'm missing out on epicness.

As it stands rite now I personally think it already has the potential to be Game Of The Year. To say it needs to change the game just to have the potential to be in the running is a bit crazy to say. Just my opinion though

The fact that it's 20% game and 80% movie automatically invalidates it from contention, IMO. Maybe make a new category "best interactive movie of the year" or something... Although that 20% is GREAT, it's not THAT great. And the 80% is of little to no value to anyone but long-time fans (which is NOT a good thing, by the way, for most people).

Big.Xero 06-23-2008 01:13 PM

awesome. ending blew my mind. kinda had my suspicions from the beginning about Ocelot though.

It's a fair argument from your standpoint although probably no video game website, award show etc will say because the game is 80% movie that it will not be able to contend.

If you look around, every credible website will say exactly what I did. Websites with fanboy writers are the ones who disagree. :)

I have a question, is it worth getting a headset for mgo? If so,,what do you guys suggest,, I don't know which headset is good,, usb/bluetooth and which brand is usually good?

dub.g 06-23-2008 10:19 PM

well i have my own bluetooth headset for my phone but i used the jabra blue tooth headset that came with Warhawk when it was released last august, i remember buying the game and the headset for $40, really good deal...

if you can still find the Socom usb headsets for like under $20, then get one, i heard their pretty good...

otherwise, ask Skinnypup, he seems to know pretty much anything and i do mean anything about the internet... dont try to contradict him though, because Skinnypup is right and the whole world is wrong...:)

link me. Not start anything here. I can really care less if you think MGS4 is good or not, plus we all have our own opinions. I just need some shiet to read at work. I cycle through all the same websites every freaking day and I'm in need of some damn articles or other websites.

Quick question.

I love FPS games and I love CoD4 on PS3. It's pretty much the only game I played on PS3 although I have many other games.

This week MGS4 is on sale for $49.99 in ToysRUS. I am thinking about picking it up. The only MG game I played a bit was Metal Gear Acid and I hated it. Do you guys think I will like MGS4 at all?

nabs 06-24-2008 01:34 PM

i hope to finish it today1!!!! for the first time, then will run through it at the same time on all difficulties. from Med to Extreme??

Acid is nothing like the other metal gears. AC!D is card based. Turn Based. MGS games are Real Time. YOU WILL LIKE IT. play the other ones as well to get a history on what happens in this game, or you will just be playing for the sake of playing and won't really understand what's going on.

So do you think I need to play the previous sequals to understand what's going on with MGS 4? How about the portable ops on PSP? Would that help at all?

The writers at 1Up.com have really been on top of it since before launch. Jeremy Parrish seems to have the best grasp of things, as a hardcore MGS fan who can see the flaws. Then there is Shane Bettenhausen who seems like nothing more than a fanboy when he talks about the game. And on the other side of it you have Shawn Elliott whose opinion is pretty close to mine about the game... Just click on MGS4 in their 'top games' list, it will link to all the articles, and read their blogs. That should get you started!

werd. finally something new to read for now atleast. thanks

ecsw 06-25-2008 09:39 AM

another newbie question.

Is the game play of MGS4 similar to MGS Portable OPS besides HighDef? Like the action and all? Is it true that it has a lot of reading?

Oshin 06-25-2008 10:17 AM

dude ,, the original mgs gameplay is nothing near to portable ops... portable ops is a side bonus by Hide Kojima. The gameplay itself is something like GTA 4,, where you see the back of your guy, and you move and sneak. Is a stealth game but with plenty of actions. I suggest you to do like google search and go on youtube,,, then you'll actually see the gameplay.

P.S: Just buy the fucking game,,, you have nothing to lose.

dub.g 06-25-2008 08:29 PM

actually i wouldnt suggest anyone to buy this game and jump into the bandwagon (like i said before)

MGS4 does poorly to introduce new gamers just because it is a conclusion to the story and since this game is heavily story based game, the characters, climaxes and the conclusion wont have much impact than it is to those fanboys, and those who have played the previous games (yes there is a difference)

there is just too much information being told, its like saying your going to watch LOTR Return of the King without watching the first 2 (without being familiar to the story at all), you wouldnt know what the fucking deal is why they climbing a mountain to burn a measely ring...

play the previous 3 and Portable Ops if you want to get a full experience on MGS (that is if you can put up with hours, and hours of story telling, the previous MGS games does have lengthy cut scenes and dialogues as well...

and :werd: to compare Portable Ops to GTA4

Portable Ops is based on MGS3 gameplay and engine, which essentially is based on the previous MGS games, to simply put, Portable Ops is indeed an MGS game...

MGS4 is no different, except this time, players are given the option to take the more action oriented route, rather than sneak around.. but essentially, all MGS games are pretty much similar in gamplay, with the exception of Ac!d of course..

after finishing MGS4, now i realize how important a canon Portable Ops is to the storyline..

Oshin 06-25-2008 08:52 PM

basically, yea I agree with you dub. But seriously though,, go buy mgs 4,,,, and other mgs series..... or,,, go watch on youtube like me,,, I've been bored before mgs 4 came out and I was watching codec calls and movie scenes from the mgs 1 + mgs 2 + mgs 3 all on youtube to refreshen my memory. You can watch the saga dvd too,, it pretty much explains brief of it,,,,

Guy_LikeWhoa 06-26-2008 01:25 PM
