Official Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Thread!!!

Just for starters. This will be the best game to ever grace the PS3 to date. Serious fanbase business.

I myself ordered the Limited Edition with Bonus DVD. Which was kind of cool.

http://www.fanboy.es/wp-content/uplo...-4-portada.jpg

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake which sends him around the world in pursuit of his arch nemesis, Liquid Ocelot. Armed with new gadgets and abilities, Solid Snake must shift the tides of war into his favor, using the chaos of the battlefield to infiltrate deep into enemy territory. In his globetrotting final mission, Snake must sneak deep into enemy locations in the Middle East, South America, and other corners of the Earth to foil Liquid Ocelot's plans for total world domination.

* MGS4 pushes the power of the PLAYSTATION® 3 to its limits with cutting edge graphics and surround sound. It also aims to be the hallmark title for the new DUALSHOCK®3 controller.
* Command Snake in his final mission which spans the entire globe as he attempts to foil Liquid Ocelot and his massive army of PMCs.
* Influence the tides of war through both passive and active means. Snake can directly aid local militia who engage invading PMCs soldiers, or encourage more fighting to slip past undetected amidst the commotion.
* Unlock custom weapons and modifications as you trade weapons with your black market weapons dealer, Drebin.
* Providing Snake with his most advanced stealth suit to date, OctoCamo, allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time.
* Otacon is back to support Snake by providing new high tech gadgets, including Metal Gear Mk. II, the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and Solid Eye, which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings.

Maybe in this one, we would actually be able to kill (Liquid) Ocelot for good.

This will be my first Metal Gear game since the NES. The PS1 and PS2 games looked overly complicated, and the controls sucked. But I hear that they fixed all that with this one, so I am looking forward to it!

Jer3 05-22-2008 11:16 PM

just started twin snakes yesterday to prepare for mgs 4. it might be the sole reason for me to pick up a ps3.

:werd:huh?

judging from Metal Gear Online beta, nothing much has change from the gameplay since Sons of Liberty and SnakeEater..

only the shooting mechanics got a revamp...and a really pointless FPS mode... if anything else, GoP is overly complicated with slightly weak cover system and the Octocamo.. but then its not much different from the Camo system from SnakeEater..

everything controls the same, even the animation and movement.., from CQC/Throw/Choke, to running, crouching etc.......

play Twins Snakes (GC), Sons of Liberty and SnakeEater if i were, just for the storyline, its not the same as reading some summary of it from the internet..

cant wait for this game

Although not many people are fans of going back and playing games on previous consoles I highly suggest checking out the first MGS on the PS1. The controls in fact were not complicated at all. I pre ordered that game from Japana nd had it shipped over when it came out and finished that shit all in Japanese. What a head ache at times I didn't understand shit but still managed to finished it in a couple of weeks. Best PS1 game ever!

jaguar604 - 90 mins huh? Well it's nice that they now give you the option to pause or skip them but I think I won't be skipping anything. Metal Gear and their cut scenes are famous. The cut scenes are insane in MGS.

dub.g 05-23-2008 09:46 AM

*edit, didnt see that the 90 minute cut scene news was already posted.....

Joystiq now has a headline CVG saying MGS4 has 90 minute cut scenes...... not containing a total of 90 minute cut scene, but an actual long length cut scene

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/br...ong-cutscenes/

this is most likely be the ending scene, as in Kojima already confirmed that this is the last of the Metal Gear Solid saga, (*although not the end of the Metal Gear franchise), so he might as well go all out with a bang for the ending....

Sons of Liberty's ending was around under 40 minutes long (totalling the amount from where Raiden was kidnap in the Arsenal Gear, not counting the interplay missions and the fight with Solidus) and Snake Eater is around 30+ minutes (same as totalling from near the certain end part of game, not including the The Boss battle)..

twitchyzero 05-23-2008 09:51 AM

So this game's gonna be ~50GB (BD dual layer)?

and is this suppose to include MGO..or is that totally separate?

Hyde 05-23-2008 09:55 AM

i've yet to start my MGS collection.... i've never beaten any yet

dub.g 05-23-2008 10:11 AM

right now, alot of websites are saying that this will be the first game to be released on Dual Layer BR.. and alot of game Pre-reviewers have been praising the audio on this game saying it surpasses what THX/Lucas Arts can do to movies..

Metal Gear Online will be included with MGS4 as a "Starter pack", meaning it will only contain about 5 to 8 maps.. with most likely more will be released on PSN in months to come..

my problem lies with the players in MGO, with my experience from Beta, people just run and gun each other, with no tactical or team effort being put on.. its like comparing Team Death Match to Search and Destroy on COD4, both modes completely changes the gameplay and experience, with S&D having more depth because of team based effort..
MGO is heavily promoted as a tactical combat game..

anyways for those who hasnt noticed, Meryl received a polygon revamp from her '05/'06 model to resemble a more realistic, older look, rather than an anime style

last and current model

Didn't they fix a lot of things with the Gamecube version though? That might be better for me... Also, my PS3 is NTSC-J...

Hehe 05-23-2008 01:02 PM

BTW, I'm not sure if it's still on, but with new registration and coupon code, you can get the game (not LE though) for 39.99 on Amazon.ca

Can't wait for the game.

First, Konami and Hideo Kojima claimed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be the final entry in the critically acclaimed series. Kojima confirmed it again at last year's E3, but since then, rumors of another MGS installment have sprouted up all over the Internet. And now, we've gotten a huge clarification that all fans need to hear.

According to associate producer Ryan Payton, MGS4 is simply the last chapter of the Solid Snake story. This most certainly doesn't mean the Metal Gear Solid name is finished. (source- MTV Multiplayer) His comment is clear and very encouraging for avid followers of the stealth pioneer.

"I think there's been some misconceptions that this is the last 'Metal Gear.' This is really just the last chapter of the saga of the Solid Snake story."

Basically, this means we'll most certainly see another MGS; it just won't feature one of the most recognizable characters in modern gaming history. And while we're dying to hear about a few possibilities, we have a more pressing question: will Kojima and Co. work on this new Snake-less MGS? Kojima has already said he wants to move on to other projects, and with Payton basically confirming that MGS will return... Well, we have to wonder whether the master will return. We can't imagine he'd just let another developer get their grubby mitts on his baby without his involvement.

Yes some things did change/fixed on the Gamecube version. I highly suggest watching The Metal Gear Retrospective Part 2 video on gametrailers.com as they go pretty in depth with it. PS1 version or Gamecube version you will still experience something awesome.

Yeah I have been following that series, and it made me want to play the original PS1 or GC games. The NES game they showed in Part 1 brought back fond memories as well :)

dub.g 05-24-2008 09:39 PM

one thing i found interesting from MGS1/Twin Snakes is that the Patriots were implied or referred to in the game....... by Kenneth Baker, he only referred to it as "them" which i thought was pretty cool considering how that was 3 years before Sons of Liberty and 10 years later now with Guns of Patriots..

Skinnypup, if you havent got a copy of any of the MGS series on the ps2, i highly suggest pick up MGS3: Subsistence, the 2nd disc includes the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, not the NES versions, well that is if you havent played it on any emulator yet..

the MGS Essentials collection does have MGS2 Substance and MGS3, but it doesnt have the 2nd disc of MGS3 Subsistence.., which is where the goodie extras are

The Gamecube version runs on an engine based on the Metal Gear Solid 2 game, so it plays almost identical to MGS2. MGS1 on PS1 is a lot simpler than on Gamecube.

Also, in the Gamecube version of MGS1 has cutscenes where Snake does unrealistic moves like backflipping to avoid missiles...

if you watch the first part of Metal Gear Retrospective, it mentions that Kojima self approve the new cut scenes in Twin Snakes after hiring the Versus director to create Matrix like cut scenes

Kojima was dissatisfied with the cut scenes from MGS1 being recreated for Twin Snakes and wanted something new...

although its true, people complaint mostly with some of Snake's moves like jumping onto a moving rocket or dodging Ocelot's Single Action Army revolver...
