Morrison must be feeling shit right now. this is my favorite NHL season ever, seeing many teams that i hate are bottom feeding, colorado, minnesota, tampa bay, dallas, st. louis...

Cheech said pretty much the same thing on the Sportsnet broadcast - if he wants to play defense, he should expect to be treated like a defenseman.

^^ i bet thats turco's first time being hit like that haa

syee 03-25-2009 10:24 AM

Found a clip of the Turco/Hordi hit...too bad I didn't get to watch the game - sounds like it was a pretty good game to watch. Nice hit by Hordi. :D Not too hard that he disables the goalie, but enough of a statement to remind the goalie that he's straying a little to far away from the net. :D

goalies should be fair game if they come out

you don't wanna get hit, stay in the net

SumAznGuy 03-25-2009 10:55 AM

I think in a few years, the league must review this issue as more and more goalies are learning and improving their puck playing skills.

The main reason why you don't want to open them up to hits is that with all that gear, their mobility is not as great as a player's. They cannot avoid some of the hits as well as a player would. But not allowing them to play the puck is not something the league wants. The goalies with the ability to play the puck does help with the speed of the game, and protects their players from getting hit into the end boards.
Plus, those breakaway passes from Turco do make for an interesting game. Teams need to be more aware when they dump and change.

turco should have been smoked, hordi would have had a partial break away if it wasnt for turco's dumbass

quasi 03-25-2009 11:02 AM

You should be able to hit them into the boards like Hordichuk did there. If there close enough to the boards to hit that means there way out and leaving themselves open IMO. Open ice contact shouldn't be allowed.

yeah, but all those plays where turco is behind the net interfering with the players is unfair since the players will get in shit for it, but the goalie can walk away with no consequences.

i just think that goalies can come and play the puck all they want, but if they do, they should be fair game to being hit or checked by a player.

Tim Budong 03-25-2009 11:06 AM

its not the first time Turco has been hit like that
he gets hit/bumped/shoved behind hte net alot aas well

Which is exactly kind of why, despite the hit, it was a good play by Turco. Or else Hordichuck would be on a partial breakaway. The guy's game also almost nullifies the dump and chase for any team.

TBH, advanced puckhandling has always been a facet of many great goaltenders. I think we're just complaining because it's not part of Luongo's game. But I'm pretty sure if Luongo handles like Turco or Brodeur, everyone would be up for Luongo's added contribution to the team.

I have lots of hate for Turco but it doesn't stem from him overplaying his role. It has more to do when he convinced the league to get Luongo to cut the knee flaps on his pad. I can't believe the guy was able to make a case about that.

EAsy, he is the player rep in charge of competition.

Technically that should be an interference penalty against Turco as he is blocking a player without the puck. But alas, the refs are not calling it, yet.

Believe me, in my playing days I ran over a number of goalies, who were my friends but playing on another team. But where do you draw the line so the goalie doesn't get killed? How would you implement a penalty to control the hits? It is definately a gray area that isn't going to be resolved any time soon as long as Turco is the player rep for competition.

LaiD 03-25-2009 01:01 PM

Playing the puck is one thing. A lot of the time he bends the rules and acts as a moving pick as well.

^ Been reading the Brampton game summaries from time to time. Definately our best prospect in a long while.

Highlights from game 2 in which he scored a hat trick and assisted on the OT winner.

No question, one of the best players drafted or not that isn't currently playing in the NHL. It should be exciting.

We saw him at exhibition didn't we. Looked small and slow in comparison to NHL standards. As much as highly touted this guy is, I'd say he'd need a 2-4 NHL years of patient developing 'til he comes a high impact player like the Sedins. (or did the Sedins take longer than that??? not sure)

Grandmaster TSE 03-25-2009 03:22 PM

go san jose & pittsburgh

Tim Budong 03-25-2009 05:36 PM
