i thikn JayBo turned down something like 7mil/year... so he'll want at least 6-7 and a cup contender team as well...
Would've loved to have him with the Canucks, but who knows maybe Bieksa and Raymond will start to play smarter

Raymond = nothing but a plug - has been given all the opportunity in the world to succeed on this team and what has he done to show for me? he plays himself out of the top 6.

Wouldn't call him a plug. He's still young and maturing.
If he could somehow put some muscle on it would really help him from getting bumped off the puck so much. Raymond's speed is electrifying!

Hockey puck

I don't know all the reasons why Florida rejected the deal but I've heard a few. One big reason is like mentioned already is the Panthers are pretty decent this season and they're right in the mix of teams fighting to get into the playoffs so making a big trade that back fires sends the wrong message to the fans because I heard the ownership doesn't want to send a message to its fan base that they're giving away all there star players for nothing and that the team is serious about winning and not always thinking about next season.

And quite honestly the only reason why we fucked up our chances for the NW title is because Lu went down. The Canucks and Flames are almost identical, that's why I would love to see a first round matchup between the two.

I would not want to see the Canucks battle with Calgary in the first round. I'd very much welcome the CBJ or CHI

On paper, the Canucks look like they can run with the top teams. But they gotta show up at the drop of the puck and play a full 60 min in order for that to happen. If they can keep up with their play as of late and not run out of steam, they can make it far.

At this point, it really comes down to Luongo, cause the rest of the team is playing well. If he doesn't let in anymore soft goals and can regain back to his form during his first season here, there's no reason why we can't make it all the way with where we currently stand. We'll fair very well against other teams if he can steal a game or 2 for us in every series including teams like DET or CAL.

That's ONLY if he can be the GOD that we all know he can.

SJ will run out of steam when the playoff comes. Mark my words.

I'm going to agree. Calgary seems too stacked now, if all their injured players return they are in top form. With the addition of Jokinen (who is in an entirely different league than brunnstrom) their forward depth will be amazing come playoff time (Iginla, Cammalleri, Jokinen, Langkow, Bertuzzi, Bourque... any of these 6 players can crack the top line on most teams). I'm going to gun for a 2nd round matchup between Cal and Van...

That's so farfetched, so many players in the league's got the wheels, but how many of them got the hands, vision, and speed that bure does? Those cannot be learned.

I'll satisfied if he can be a top 6, a franchise player will be highly unlikely.

Jaybo didn't re-sign with Florida because he has said he wants to play in a hockey market.

Bieksa's played 11 fewer games than Bouwmeester. Bouwmeester has gotten 287 minutes on the PP compared to Bieksa's 217 but has fewer powerplay points than Bieksa. I'm not saying Bouwmeester isn't a good defenseman, he is, but IMO, he's not head and shoulders better than Bieksa at this point. He might be head and shoulders better than Bieksa in a year or two but just not right now.

As much as I would've liked Bouwmeester here, I'm glad Gillis didn't make that trade. There's probably no way we can sign Bouwmeester in the offseason anyways, he turned down 6m a year from the Panthers so I'm guessing he's seeking something near the 6.5 that Phaneuf and Jovo gets. 2 Sedins at possibly 6 each, Luongo at 6.75, Bouwmeester at 6.5, That's probably more than half the Canucks cap on 4 players (assuming the cap goes down to 50 or less).

Don't judge JayBo on his point totals. He is very effective defensively. Bieksa on the other hand..we've all seen his defensive lapses...But he does bring other intangibles like toughness which JayBO does lack. He plays like Lidstrom but currently lacks Lidstrom's point totals.

Hondaracer 03-06-2009 01:40 AM

u dont think Gillis talks to players like Lu about moves to make?

guaranteed he consults the captain of the team on what he thinks the right move for the team is in terms of where they stand and what they gain to lose

im confident Lu will sign a new contract

^where do u find these...LOL

as for JayBo..the similarities on paper vs the skating ability/puck movement is the difference maker

regardless..Beiksa > Jaybo for Vancouver for me....

Kesler is hilarious, me and a buddy where at Earls Yaletown after the Blackhawks game, we walk by the front where they had a TV and Kes is just standing there watching the Canucks highlights on TV, he grabs me and my buddy and says "hold up, wait for it, wait for it" they show his goal, "now tell me that wasn't great, don't I look sweet on TV" :haha:

Grandmaster TSE 03-06-2009 09:27 AM

well we can always pick up jaybo during the offseason

you gotta remember that we have bieksa locked down in contract, and consider his points total and his play, it was a good choice not to give him up
