I'm not understanding this how it works. Can someone explain?
I thought Canucks already signed Bernier. Another team can still offer money and take him away? How much is the Canucks currently offering Bernier?

Canucks didn't sign him to a deal yet, thus St Louis offered him 2.5 million for one year and he signed that. Canucks now have the option of matching or declining. If they decline, Bernier is signed with the Blues.

if you take the timeline out of the equation, it's a three way deal if canucks dont match. buffalo gets 2nd rounder in '09, 3rd rounder in '10, st.louis gets bernier, we get 1,2,3 rounder from st. louis.
so that being said... if we end up signing demitra &/or sundin, pick up a high 1st first rounder (if st. louis sucks in 08/09), and get higher picks (again, assuming st. louis still sucks) in the 2nd and 3rd round... did we fair well?
edit: oops... forgot that bernier is a group II RFA... we would only get a 2nd rounder from st. louis as compensation. NOT SUCH A GOOD DEAL AFTERALL!

My opinions in the past few pages were all about my opinion on certain things, mainly about players and who I think would make an impact and who I think would not. It had little to do with the business side of things which I admit I don't know much of. The only topic of business side I brought up is how I think Nonis got fired a bit too quick. I don't see how I made any opinions sound like it's the only one that mattered.

I"m confused, why did the offer sheet restrict them from signing him to a multi year deal? Couldnt they have just signed him for say, 3 yrs (7.5m?)
