| Shaw Cable Retention Plan
I'm asking the RS gurus out there if there is a Shaw Retention program? I currently have been a customer of shaw cable and internet for more than 10 years and have never asked for anything more than my plan.
I recently called Rogers to cancel my phone plan but they offered me a retention plan to which I was very pleased about. I was wondering if Shaw has the same thing?
Any info or advice is greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of getting an HDTV package or switching from the normal internet to Shaw x-treme net. One or the other or possibly both.
Thanks in advance.

So apparently there is one... http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...d.php?t=619633
I haven't had the time to do it or to thoroughly read through the responses but it looks good if you start to read from the last few pages to get an up to date situation..

Guides anyone?! | Can be done, though I don't think free is possible any more. I ended up getting 6 month free rental with option to purchase at the end for half price, plus 6 months of free preview of all the extra/premium HD channels. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...t=90566&page=6
It helps if you have a solid background with them -- for instance, I spend about $100/mo with them due to cable, internet and Chinese TV -- in fact I've been spending that much for years. Use what leverage you have.
Be polite. Ask for Customer accounts (IIRC). The CSR I spoke to told me that he was looking at my payment history, account standing etc etc etc. He indicated that his department was instructed to avoid being total whores about providing deals and that I was a solid customer, so your milage may vary depending on your account standing and CSR.
Oh, one more edit for clarity: I have had a non-PVR HD box for years and wanted to upgrade to a HDPVR. They wouldn't take the old non-PVR HD box on trade because it was out of warranty.

Seems that bell is offering the best bet ATM. I think using Bell would be pretty go leverage... That is if you have the good background blah blah blah long time customer blah blah blah.. and everything else.

Did you guys call in and say that you want to cancel?
Last time I called I said that I needed some new boxes because one of my old SD boxes were dead. I asked about what kind of differences were there between Telus TV and Shaw cable and they said they are totally different. Gave me some BS about me first having to have ADSL services with Telus before being able to get that deal (which is untrue). I got fed up with the agent because then he started to bridge me onto Shaw Home Phone...which is NOT what I asked him about. I promptly told him to STFU and hung up.
Will try my luck again with another agent. Thinking of going HD but need the boxes first.

It may help to indicate that you're seriously THINKING about jumping ship. This would include familiarizing yourself with what Telus and Bell offer. Last time I checked, Telus didn't offer HD, for instance.
Consider going for a PVR if you're making the step to HD.
If you're thking about non-PVR boxes only, have a look at craigslist as the going rate for non-PVR boxes seems to be about $200ish. OTOH if you manage the paying the half-price-for-the-HDPVR after six months means you can land a PVR for about $300.

Very true.
It really depends who is on the other line and the department you should be talking to are either customer relations or some "customer loyalty" department of that sort.
With the additional HD channels Shaw has provided, it's time to switch to HD packaging.

Shaw has no retention department because they have no competition. Shaw is the only cable company in BC that doesn't use a satellite dish.
They might give you a bill credit if you get the right person on the phone, but from my past experience with them, they have no problem canceling your service with them.
Shaw also doesn't use contracts.

ok here's what bell has to offer for their HD PVR
* 50% off an HD PVR Plus. Only $299 after credit1
* $25 online credit
* $10 Pay Per View credit3
* Movie Central, including HBO Canada, free for 2 months4
i guess if ur a long term customer with them, call in and say u're thinking of switching since there seems to be a better deal at bell, and i'm sure they offer you something.

The longer you've been with them, and the more expensive your monthly bill is, the more negotiating power you have.

Recently we tried to get a deal on the HD PVR. These guys won`t give us anything at all in terms of discounts, credits etc...
We have called about 3-4 times, spoke to a different person everytime...From customer service agents to agents in the retention dept--they won`t give us anything at all...They claim the most they can give is a month of free preview for all the HD and digital channels. What a bunch of BS...
