I hate this club. Full of clowns who are ridiculously un-funny, cliche, and overhype their shitty events and productions. Tons of non-profit organizations can do way better than these tools, and for a student club they rake in quite a bit of annual dough.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice a lot of those UBC student clubs have some sort of Chinese, or Asian theme?
To me it promotes racial/cultural separation.

i wish i coulda seen this video as well...
too bad - i actually had a lot of fun in CVC... dumb decision with the video though... i can tell you that CVC events are way less cliquey than any of the other chinese clubs though...

I saw the video before news actually broke out about it... I don't see how they thought it would be a good video for attracting people to join their club. It made fun of hongers more than anything else

^ You don't need to be Chinese to belong in CVC, or any ethnic clubs at UBC for that matter. It's there to spread cultural influence, or so it seems.

That's bs, people shouldn't take it so damn seriously. It's a parody,a satire nothing more nothing less. It's a pretty accurate portrayal if you ask me, if you look at DSC, CSA, CCS at those booths what is the representation of their clubs? People with accents, typical "fob" looking people while if you look at the CVC booth it's more lively and most definitely not the "fob" circle.
Disbandment is definitely too severe of a punishment, nothing really happened when hippies made a shanty town in the old busloop in protest of saving the grassy-knoll, that shanty town was a complete eyesore and nothing more than a few hippies wanting to stop change and an efficient bus loop.

I want to see this video for myself too. I've had bad and good experiences with CVC folk when I was back at UBC, but regardless of which club, there are always assholes who think they have to assert themselves over everyone else. Doesn't matter if they're Honger or CBC. I'm not saying the peeps who made the vid are such, but I can say that the focusing on this one club and this one incident puts things out of perspective.
You'll get an idea of what I'm blabbering about if you do what I did: be a Canadian-raised, practically whitewashed exec in a Honger club for a few years.  | |

Heard the club got owned for releasing the dumb vid n were apologizing right before they released another vid which
Got them totally owned hahahaha
Then channel M decided to look into this matter n then I think CVC went down the crapper hahahaha
Dissing hongers hahaha half of us can speak better english than that fools
Hongers didn't even need to make a comeback vid to own them, just watched them get owned themselves
Hahahaha my girlfriend told me they released some cheap clip that dissed hongers
N I told her not to worry bout it since its lousy n ppl will just laugh at them, not with them
Next day she told me the story went on TV and apparently CVC isn't just banned from clubs day, but possibly forced to disband

Many things -- sarcasm, irony, parodies, and even occasionally basic jokes -- tend to go over people's heads when they're not familiar with it, and it will occasionally scare them into action... albeit an action that may be the complete opposite that was intended. UBC is full of overly sensitive students who are unable to take a joke.

^^ while i agree completely -- what happens if instead of hongers they were bashing, they said niggers, or jew, or cockfags ... then it would get international media attn.

i disagree actually..
the right way to make fun of ppl is the russell peters way, don't be ignorant about it.. show you did some homework cuz it's harder to be offended if it's true.
the wrong way is to carelessly use them at the butt end of a joke based on what you see on tv.
what if i made a vid about white ppl and used all the ignorant shit i could come up with, most of it not being true? Then if ur offended, which is right: A) I'm a dumbass B) You're too sensitive?
At some point, you cross a line.. not talking specifically about this case. You may be right in that the hongers may be little more "sensitive" than others would be.. or CVC messed up, idk.
edit: oh yeah, but i find getting the media involved is overkill. you can't talk to them face to face about it?
