18 years is weak????! wtf guys what are you expecting the death penalty?? oO

reading his previous charges i kinda doubt his ballingness when he's caught with 1kg in his own car etc... i think its probably trumped up and they grouped a bunch of acquaintances together and called them a syndicate (happens quite a bit actually)

either way this guy is going away for awhile before he's available for parole

18 years is a federal sentence. You serve 1/3 of that time if you're well behaved and get parole.

Ian Donaldson is one of Van's top criminal lawyers. He's usually the lawyer for most of Vancouver's big cases. If memory serves me right, he was even defending that Air India bomber guy.

Peck - he's so good the rumor is if u pick him u'll get out regardless of the charge but he'll charge you a few arms and legs

Rankin - that Lai guy used him but then claimed he didnt have the money to support him(if a billionaire opted for him u can rest assured), police stanley park murder, etc,etc

Donaldson - this case ??

Serka - remember some rcmp and prosecutors were talking and were worried for their case because a defendant hired him, and he's a Q.C. so i guess he must be good but i havent exactly seen him at the courthouses

cant go wrong with any of them

18 years... quite a long sentence under our justice system.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

I'd definitely put Anthony Serka as one of the top defense lawyers in this city. twice he's convinced a judge to release me from court to post my own bond, and 3 times I've hired him and never had to make more than 1 court appearance. mind you these were assault charges and not drug related. I know that a lot of his cases are drug related and he fly's back east for most of them

I would also add Peter Ritchie the defense lawyer for Pickton, who also was the lawyer for the case in the 1990s when the Juror was sleeping with a defendant. Also Marvin Stern, who was Nickelbacks lawyer is also one of the most prominent lawyers.

I am actually surprised that so many of you guys know so much about lawyers.

I've only heard about Sheldon Goldberg, and not because he is good.

The man believed to have headed the biggest criminal conspiracy in B.C. history -- a $168-million drug smuggling ring with tentacles reaching into eight countries -- has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars.

Yong Long Ye, also known as "Sam," pleaded guilty on Friday to conspiracy to import and traffic in cocaine and methamphetamine and conspiracy to launder the proceeds of crime.

As part of his sentence, Ye must forfeit six properties in B.C. and Ontario. He is serving 18 years in addition to time already served.

Ye's sophisticated drug smuggling ring operated out of the Lower Mainland, but its reach extended far beyond B.C.'s borders.

According to police, cocaine was trucked from Los Angeles to Toronto, methamphetamines went from Vancouver to Australia in specially constructed suitcases and boxes, and heroin came into Canada from India and Pakistan. Money was funnelled back to Vancouver through 38 bank accounts in China controlled by Ye.

Cash was brought from Toronto to Ye's Vancouver base at a rate of $250,000 a week by couriers using commercial flights, said police.

The conviction was the result of a complex year-long investigation by police in Canada, Australia, the U.S, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, India and China.

18 years ON TOP OF TIME SERVED.

This guy got hugely smacked down compared to the usual Canadian slap on the wrist. Must be int'l eyes on this story.
