that's skytrain for you. Rmember last year when we had the major snow storm skytrians and bus were down for like 2hrs.

I got this week off so I am at home but I know how it feels. Just last week I was late for work twice coz the skytrain can't take the snow. SO I WAS thinking there isn't even any snow so why the delay lol.

man i can see the skytrain right now and people have been standing there for ages, i feel their pain, you can call skytrain later on n get reinbursed though I think. they are blaming some ice n snow messing up their switchers. translink = unreliable.

How come there are no washrooms at skytrain stations? In fact, why are our skytrain stations so shitty in general?

Canada, at times, is one helluva backwards-ass country.

Translink on a regular basis is fine IMO.
Sometimes things are just out of the control of humans...aka..snow. Especially the amount we have and the intensity it's coming down with..and it's heavy wet snow!

So if you think bitching/whining bout the service will accomplish anything, let me ask you this.

What if there was no service at all?

You'd all be majorly buttfucked, I think we should be glad that they even attempt to try and keep things running, even if it's majorly delayed..

Ya, once I heard that the tree went down by Nanaimo, I didn't even bother going to the skytrain station. Boarded the #20 and called it that. Went past Broadway station and saw that the platform was overflowing to the overpass that leads to the Millenium platform. Pretty crazy.

Here's what this morning looked like at Broadway, 7:50am

Personally, I wouldn't accept what we have now as "standards". Satisficing for sub-par bullshit-unionized dumbfucks who couldn't pull their own fingers our of their asses is the reason why our translink is fucked beyond repair. It took these doorknobx over 20 mins to fix a door on a skytrain that wouldn't close. Later, over the PA they asked the passenger to help "guide the door close" if it was experiencing any problems.

I lol'd and said WTF in my mind.

ur right K-dub, let's not whine and bitch about shitty service, let's not share our experience and let translink rape us up the ass. It's a rant dammit. no service at all?? yeap i remember the strike, it was bad but not the end of the world. Translink is shit because it is unreliable, i pay for service that I don't get.

This is even worst

VANCOUVER, B.C. - A white Christmas had many Canadians seeing red Wednesday as winter weather - especially an unusual barrage of snow in Vancouver - caused flight delays and cancellations from one coast to the other.

Thousands of passengers were stuck in airports, facing lengthy delays or simply unable to get to their destinations on Christmas Eve as the weather-related disruptions rippled through the North American air transportation system.

Online schedules for airports across Canada showed hundreds of delayed flights and dozens of cancellations.

Much of the system's problems could be traced to Vancouver, which was hit by the third major snowstorm in a week. Snow fell through much of the day in Vancouver, which normally gets only 55 centimetres of snow annually but was on target to surpass that amount in the last week alone.

While the Vancouver Airport Authority managed to keep both runways open, Air Canada cancelled all short-and medium-haul flights to and from the airport, focusing its efforts on maintaining service to more distant points in Canada and abroad.

WestJet was watching the situation in Vancouver closely but trying to avoid cancelling flights because of the ripple effect from cancellations, said spokesman Robert Palmer. A few delays or cancellations anywhere can quickly cascade through the entire air transportation system.

"We need to make sure that if we send a plane to Vancouver full of people that we can actually get it out of there," Palmer said from Calgary. "If we send a couple of flights this afternoon and they get stuck in Vancouver, then we've hurt our entire operation."

Airlines and airports across Canada were calling in extra staff to deal with stranded or anxious passengers, and encouraging travellers not to go to an airport without first verifying - online or by phone - that the flight was still scheduled.

At Vancouver International Airport, stranded passengers played cards, listened to music, read or just started blankly ahead to pass the time. Several curled up to sleep in quieter corners.

Two girls trying to make it to Edmonton unpacked their luggage to eat up the Christmas treats they were trying to bring home. Other families upended suitcases looking for toys to keep little ones occupied.

Margaret Logan, who was trying to get to Calgary, urged stranded passengers to stay calm.

"It's nice and dry inside here, why not just kind of ease up and relax?" she said. "I know it's disappointing but you will get there."

Julie Dunford was trying to get to Winnipeg. Her Tuesday night Air Canada flight was first delayed a few times, then cancelled. With no more seats available from Air Canada, she ended up purchasing a new ticket from WestJet.

"I'm not keeping my hopes up, hopefully I'll be home for Boxing Day," she said. "I've tried sleeping, but sleep is not happening. I got only about half an hour last night, I'm just too anxious to (sleep) because I don't know whether I'll be flying so it's just hanging."

The airlines were scheduling extra flights to cope with the backlog of stranded passengers.

"We've already put on dozens of additional flights over the last couple of days," Palmer said. "We've also chartered additional aircraft from other operators that aren't using them right now in order to try to get as many people home as humanly possible for Christmas Day."

Rebecca Catley, spokesperson for the Vancouver airport, said Wednesday's snowstorm hit just as the facility managed to clear a backlog that stranded thousands of passengers after a storm on Sunday and Monday.

"It's really tough for people who are planning to get home or get to a vacation spot and we understand that," Catley said. "That's why we've mobilized not just our customer service staff, but even folks in the operations side."

WestJet was offering passengers who voluntarily cancelled their bookings a credit worth twice the value of the original ticket. Air Canada was allowing passengers to change flights without paying an extra fee.

"Our focus at the moment is on getting people to their destinations safely as soon as we can do so," Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick told CTV Newsnet. "We've added in the last three days 8,200 extra seats in our system to try and move passengers who have been delayed, and we continue to look for extra capacity and see where we can squeeze in extra flights.

"We know it's important to people travelling at this time of year to get to their destination."

WestJet traditionally uses office staff to bolster its airport check-in personnel over Christmas, a strategy that helped the airline rebook passengers stranded due to cancellations and delays. About a dozen extra check-in staff were working at the Calgary airport while other employees were ensuring those waiting in line were kept informed and fed.

"We're feeding them pizza and pop and snacks and stuff while they wait," said Palmer. "The lineup is long but it's going very well in the sense that people are getting flights to where they need to go."

^ Lol. I've had a couple friends coming back from Edmonton on the weekend. They arrived in Vancouver but couldn't land, so the plane had to go back to Edmonton... wait for 24 hours before coming back to Van.
