Although I think the film was well done in showing the many paths which humans take in an attempt to explain all of that which surrounds us- to make sense of it all- I think he missed the one tool that allows others to see his point of view- that is to validate the views of the person who is talking- it allows them to see where you are coming from too- as a former Christian- I know what it feels like to be trapped in the "I am right and everyone else is gonna burn in hell thought process" Christians get angry- they feel threatened when their whole belief system is challenged. Christianity is exclusive- if I am honest and say, "My mind- my life doesn't allow me to believe the way Christians do.." Then I am doomed to burn in hell? I don't think so. Do your research- so many people have been slaughtered in the name of Christianity- even today. Anger is a sign of someone who refuses to see that this big world- all 6.5 billion of us believe differently- that's why I am a Buddhist- I believe that if you truly believe- that you are honest with yourself about what you believe- then you are right. Embrace the mystery. Dont be an angry Christian- just love- simply Love- THAT is truly the only religion that includes us all- everything else is simply about control- most Christians are simply being controled by their beliefs- their Pators- their Parents..that goes for other close minded controlling religions also. Love. I love you all. Now what could be wrong with that if I am truly a morally upstanding person?

JHuJHu 12-28-2008 06:03 PM

Nope, i do not.

Fafine 12-28-2008 06:10 PM

The_AK 12-28-2008 06:17 PM

Spoiler!

hahahh

phatpower 12-28-2008 08:48 PM

I do not believe in god.

quasi 12-28-2008 08:57 PM

No, can't say I believe in God. I'm not a religious person but do what makes you happy.

Culture_Vulture 12-28-2008 09:07 PM

I don't believe in Gods, or any deities for that matter.
But that doesn't mean I refute their existence either.

To me, stuff like this is better off being left alone; the more I understand about spirituality, the less I wish I knew.

xyz123 12-28-2008 09:09 PM

I don't believe in god, but I believe in his/her/its teachings for example Buddha.

Hondaracer 12-28-2008 09:12 PM

i do not belive in god because there are too many wonders of the world of which have absolutely no explanation through religous means

mostly having to do with the universe, space, matter, etc.

Where in the bible was it written that the large hadron collider would recreate the exact conditions which occured miliseconds after the big bang? where in the bible does it say governing forces such as dark energy and dark matter are truely what holds a universe beyond comprehension together?

+Kardboard+ 12-28-2008 09:21 PM

I believe in God and I'm Christian.

That being said, FiveDime, you're very right in saying that lots of people died and continue to die in the name of "Christianity." My question would be, are those people really Christian? What's a Christian? Some might even think that I (and my family for that matter) are heretics because we don't do the same so-called Christian-y things that they do and that we don't blindly follow religious leaders.

Kill people in the name of God? Who made you the judge?

Think everyone's going to Hell? How do you know?

Afraid of every social trend? Grow a backbone.

Some God-believers make other God-believers look bad, methinks.

Well said, my friend.

BTW, I am also a Buddhist. It's more a philosophy than a religion. Some Buddhists, however, place too much emphasis on the teachings of a Buddha, rather than discovering for themselves. I guess that makes it a religion?

EDIT: to answer the question, I believe in a few gods. I believe in the hockey gods (one day the Canucks will be granted the Stanley Cup). I also believe in the Lottery Gods (one day I will be a millionaire).

Sid Vicious 12-28-2008 09:30 PM

i'm worried that people who run this country believe in a talking snake

so no, i'm a atheist.

ctsport 12-28-2008 09:31 PM

No I do not, and I am against pretty much anything that has to do with religion. This is a good film but I think Richard Dawkins' is better.

freakshow 12-28-2008 09:35 PM

I didn't watch the video (yet); but I do, and I'm a Christian.

Liquid_o2 12-28-2008 09:37 PM

Nope, i don't believe in any organized religion but I still consider myself somewhat spiritual. But definitely not the idea that there is one supreme being out there.

I went to church when I was like 8 years old with a friend, scared the living crap out of me.

Corey Darling 12-28-2008 09:38 PM

.

ctsport 12-28-2008 09:38 PM

BTW for those of you who haven't seen 'Jesus Camp' you must see it. Its probably the best single documentary on the contemporary state of religion. Its not like Richard Dawkins' or Bill Maher's where they try to use reason and objectivity to get their points through (imo, its next to impossible to reason with Jesus Freaks anyways). In Jesus Camp, there is little to no commentary and they leave it up to the viewer to make her own conclusions.

AzNightmare 12-28-2008 09:45 PM

I believe in God simply because I find it easier to believe there is one rather than there isn't one. Thinking things happen with random chance doesn't seem quite right.
The existance of life without a greater power in control seems strange.

Not saying contemporary religion is perfect, but you can't watch a 'documentary' like that, then call it 'letting the viewer decide'. The documentary is made from a certain point of view, commentary or not, it still portrays one side.

True and untrue at the same time.
At the shallowest level: Yes, Buddhism is more philosophical and academical than religious.
But only knowing the "how-to's" and the "what-if's" doesn't make one a devoted practitioner; it doesn't even necessarily make one a believer.
It is "simple, but profound wisdom".

yson_3 12-28-2008 10:59 PM

this thread should be a poll. becuase i have an odd feeling the number of non believers is quite high on Revscene. however as soon as you drop the word atheist everyone runs and hides.

No offense.. but that sort of thinking is stupid.
You can't seriously expect a book to tell you everything about everything and predict every single action that mankind will make.. how does that even make sense? There would be no point in living life if you already have everything written in stone for you.

Truly if you look at the wonders, the ones having to do with the Universe, those are actually proof that we're not here due to mere chance. I also understand that given the same evidence and the same situations, you and I will believe different things and that is okay too.
I don't have an issue with that, I hope you understand that, but your reasoning(the two reasons you listen, to be specific) behind why God doesn't exist is ludicrous.

That's like not believing in God because bad things happen in the world or because a priest molests little boys.
You can't really write off the existence of God because of the actions of man.

I can't tell you that I'm without a doubt right and that you are absolutely wrong.. for all I really know, you COULD be right.. but I think you need better reasoning than that to even start making sense.

I can tell you this though.. if God were to come down to earth and reveal It self to the whole world, a thousand years later you would still have many different religions worshiping different god's.
