Just partition your hd and install Windows 7 in the new partition, then when the beta expires delete everything and put the partition back with your C drive or whatever.

^ I have no idea what program is best for partitioning. I tried Magic Partition or something along that name but it just tells me I have an error.

you dont need to partition your harddrive..microsoft was brilliant bringing the beta out..when you boot you get too options...keep letting windows 7 run...or something else called "rollover"
means you can go back to vista anytime.

Any major bugs? If not, ill upgrade now! Already downloaded it

But wouldn't all my current programs be gone then?

Better to make a new partition if I don't wanna reinstall my programs again (if it does delete all my programs from upgrading to W7) right?

Try rebooting. Try reinstalling. If that doesn't work, give up. There is a chance your hardware is not supported. There are not a lot of drivers included in this build. You could try posting your hardware to see if anyone else was successful.

Okay, everything works fine now.. for some reason firefox is working MUCH MUCH faster than vista ult. weird. bottom bar is too big =\

Overall, not much change. Just better looks and faster load time and shit. meh wish my FF runs fast as this on vista ult.

Probably just gonna use this for web browsing and stuff

I've had Windows 7 installed on one of my HP Tablets for a few weeks now and I haven't experienced TOO many problems. My scroll pad sometimes stops working and I have to restart the computer but after a restart, it's back to normal. It takes a while to get used to minimizing and the new tool bar but it's a pretty clean setup.

I am still trying to figure out if the battery life is actually improved with this new Windows or whether it drains faster. I have noticed that my screen gradually dims out and certain parts on the laptop turn off if they are not being used, so I'd think the battery life would be improved.

hm...

Are you people upgrading from Vista SP1 to Windows 7 or WinXP to Windows7

Because it only works for 7000 Build Beta from Vista SP1. I didn't do a fresh install, I simply upgraded and all my progams migrated properly, even my own user settings and wallpaper etc...

Unless your machine is built for Vista I wouldn't recommending you installing win7. That is probably one concern i'll have for the beta trial.

I've had Windows 7 installed for about 3 days now. The problems I've seen so far:
*Browser freezes several times a day. Haven't found a pattern yet (i.e. it's not Flash or Java or anything like that freezing it). I have to end task IE and have it relaunch.
*Another browser annoyance - animated menus don't work properly. Try going to dealextreme or other sites that use the animated menus. They don't format properly and run into each other.
*Slightly confusing toolbar. When using MSN Messenger, it doesn't seperate out the chats so I have to click on the MSN icon on the toolbar and then select the window I want to bring up. Probably can be changed to the classic mode but haven't looked up how to do it. It now also flashes a "gold" color instead of a very contrasting color. With a yellow or green background, it's somewhat hard to see.
*UAC still exists. Annoying when you're trying to install apps or fix OS issues (like installing missing DLL's and registering them)
*I'm also getting some wierd static when playing back audio (haven't troubleshot it so I don't know if it's a sound card problem, WMP problem or speakers going bad) but I thought I'd throw it in to see if others had the same thing. I'm just using the base Windows 7 drivers for everything as I highly doubt any of the manufacturers will have Windows 7 drivers available at this time)

As for installation, I did mine as a fresh installation. Had a spare drive lying around so I installed it on that. Installation was pretty fast (about on par with XP install) and seems to be running decently on my somewhat dated hardware.

My current hardware is:
Opteron 170
2GB DDR RAM
GeForce 6800GT
Abit AV8 motherboard
SB Audigy sound card

On browser issues:
This is an issue with IE8...not entirely an issue with Win7. IE8 is really buggy and also in beta.

On confusing toolbar:
There will be a learning curve for sure. It is in fact very similar to the Dock in OS X.

On UAC:
The idea is that it is now much easier to control versus how it was in Vista. You can easily turn it all off if you wanted to now. You couldn't do that in Vista.

You couldn't turn off UAC in Vista? Turning it off is the first thing I do... but I do think the UAC in 7 is a lot less intrusive. Still noticeable for me to turn it off but for the average user, it's pretty friendly

Sure you could. I used TweakUAC to disable it on Vista. Haven't tried it on Windows 7 yet.

Turning off UAC is simple. Type msconfig at the run bar, go to Tools and launch Disable UAC.

Sorry I worded it like you couldn't do it in Vista. What I mean is that it's a bit harder to get to in Vista, where you need to do msconfig to get to it. In Win7, you just need to go to Control Panel.

I have it installed on my Thinkpad T60. Haven't tested it out with the battery. Will have to do that one soon. Hopefully there isn't a significant impact on battery life.
