hydrolock

does anyone know if rs covers hydrolock? i went through a puddle of water about 20 feet long, it cracked my oil pan.

BEEB 01-03-2009 08:55 AM

cracked oil pan by dydrolock?
or you hit a big chunck of ice in the middle that torn through your pan?

back on topic, you can go through ICBC but i don't know about CNSI

that's not hydrolock... hydrolock is when your engine sucks in water thru the intake, and then when your pistons go to compress it, it doesn't compress and stalls your engine... most likely resulting in shortened connecting rods, or broken pistons... often times, blown gaskets too...

insurance companies usually cover damage such as damaged oil pans... but usually, oil pans only crack when you hit something solid...

First check to see if your deductable is more or less expensive than the repair!!!

How does a cracked oil pan semi-relate to a hydrolock?

Type-SIR 01-03-2009 11:14 AM

the adjuster said there was a sign of impact 3 days ago.. now he's confirming there was no sign of impact?

Be glad it wasn't hydrolock.

Alatar 01-03-2009 12:43 PM

I don't think it's possible for you to have taken worse or more useless pictures for us. All I see is some metal and drips of oil.

Take some clearer pictures if you expect us to be able to see something.

You can't hydrolock the car by cracking the oil pan. You can seize the engine through oil starvation if the oil pan is cracked enough and the oil leaks out, but that's a slower process than hydrolocking it.

What leads you to believe that the engine is hydrolocked? Does the engine crank at all when you start it?

Berzerker 01-06-2009 07:39 AM

Do you even know what hydrolocking a motor is?

Why dont you just hit it with the paddle again and see if that gets it going?

Berz out.

!Yaminashi 01-06-2009 09:15 AM

WOW, major fail

Mashimaro 01-06-2009 11:48 AM

IF you hyrdolocked your motor then yes, you can get covered by ICBC. I believe it is called "collision with water" or something.

however, i'm not sure how your private insurance will work for that. go to a reputable shop and get a quote first to see how much damage you have and how much it'll cost you in the end. it may or may not be cheaper than your increased premiums...

good luck and yah, take some better photos next time ;)

GabAlmighty 01-06-2009 12:02 PM

You don't get that problem with volvos...

Type-SIR 01-08-2009 07:32 PM
