bumping an old thread.

i need new eyeglasses, and i'm looking for a place to buy frames and get (nikon) lenses made up. the optometrist i went to does their own sales and insist that their prices are good, but i want to shop around.

from what other members have recommended in the past on this thread:

Eyestar @ Metrotown
Eyedol @ City Square

... does this still apply, or are there any new shops that have come up in the last year?

I got my glasses from Optical Centre. Robson one has limited selection, but they can order stuff in. Try shopping close to Chinese New Year coz lots of the Chinese places have pretty good sales around that time.

Any optical center is making huge profit so ideally they are all rip off..

best bet is to go to Asian run business where you can bargain and pay cash instead

smart eyewear at parker place and crystal
anthony's optical at crystal
when you start going there every few years they'll let you bargain on subsequent lenses/glasses purchase.

yes nikon is expensive, especially the new version that just came out. the optometrist recommended nikon because of my prescription so i don't have much choice (something about being a very high index)... but he says i need to be rechecked every 2-3 years so i don't know if i want to spend that much for something i might not be able to use in a short period of time.
