Copy MP3's on IPODS

Is it possible and how do I copy the songs from my IPOD onto the hard drive?

Is it possible to plug in my friends IPOD into my Itunes and copy the songs?

I'm just thinking that if I harddrive crashes, and if my MP3's are on my IPOD, there is no way to back them up.

1) not sure
2) You can use a program like Music Rescue where you can copy your friends song onto your computer.

As long as your iPod is set to manually sync, you can use your iPod in any other computer that shares the same OS used when you first synced your iPod. A freeware program such as SharePod can copy files from your iPod to your computer.

what a coincidence, i just did this today. i used tansee iphone copy. it can copy ipod and iphone's music to mp3 files on your computer. retaining all the tags. you can find the program by searching "tansee" on mininova and thepiratebay. it works great on my iphone, and windows 7.
