The Fog was a horrible movie

but you guys mention that highbeams don't help, what if they're yellow though, using the same concept as yellow foglights?

i hate the dumbass people who use their high beams. a douche in a mpv van was following me over the knight street bridge with their high beams on.Then turned when i turned to 57th and they followed so i pulled over and i flashed my high beams at them. nope didn't turn them off. As we drove along EVERY car passing by would flick their high beams at this dumb ass and nope. still on. what a tool.
hope they get blinded by thick fog and drive into a curb.

not to mention its even worst cause we all know every other civic driver drives with their high beams on .
/end rant

Quick Met Lesson 101:

Fog is ground based cloud.

There are different types of fog, but generally speaking Vancouver will see fog with low wind conditions, low temperatures and and very similar dew point temperatures. Seeing clear sky above the fog is typically always true. With clear skies at night, temperatures drop much more do to radiational cooling of the ground. With clouds, this radiation bounces back and fourth between the clouds and the ground.

So why does fog form? Air can only hold so much water vapour. The warmer the air, the more water can be held. This is why it is so humid in hot places like Mexico etc, and dry in cold places like Northern MB, SK, and AB in winter.

When you see humidity on a weather forecast, it is showing relative humidity. This is a percentage value of how much water vapour is in the air, compared to how much vapour the air can hold at it's current temperature. Once the relative humidity reaches 100% it is considered saturated.

So in lamens terms (sp?), let says air at 10 degrees can hold 100ml of water. Let's also say air at 9 degrees it can hold 90ml of water. If it is 10 degrees outside with a relative humidy of 90%, that means there is 90ml of water in the air. So if the air cools down 1 more degree(to 9 degrees) this 90ml of water is still in the air, but the relative humidity is now 100%. At this point, with a little stirring action (light winds) clouds are formed. If the temperature were to drop more you will experience rain, or mist since the air can no longer hold the excess vapour, it needs to get rid of it. Hopefully this makes sense to atleast one person.

Put this all together, and this is why you have fog, especially when the forecast is calling for clear skies.

Ya, i've noticed that as well... driving to work this morning, saw a GMC 4x4 speeding along side a civic... they were doing like 100 for a while.

If they regularly serviced their vehicles, all those burnt out lights would have been noticed and changed. Or at least regularly checked their lights.

I've also seen quite a few cars brake lights on constantly, even when they are accelerating

some cars have rear fog lights, hence the constant brake light on one side.
