Go Turbo, that's the only way for you to make power.

Berzerker 01-25-2009 11:14 AM

^^^ Yep save all your nickles and dimes... spend a few grand all at once... and be faster than you can ever hope to be by doing small shitty mods.

Berz out.

Funny thing is... I've owned my prelude for 7 years now. I started like everyone else with a CAI, header and exhaust. Nothing really beats the bang for the buck you'll get out of a boosted car.

not 100% true. He can go for an N/A build but its VERY expensive power and far less potential versus a boosted car.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-25-2009 01:16 PM

but honda engines are n/a they are not factory turbo.. i am afraid the engine cant handle it... and besides.. i heard too many scary story about turbos.. i might think about a sall turbo tho. i dont want to spend 5 hrs every week taking care of the car.. but thanks , i will keep it in mind.

Understandable not too many people willing to dump huge amounts of money in to a prelude. But think about it this way, if you want tangible horsepower increase you're gonna be spending a lot of money as well.

The best h22 headers such as SMSP, Hytech run well over a thousand american. And you'd have to wait weeks/months to have it made.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-25-2009 01:28 PM

true true!! can you tell me more info about a turbo setup?? like what to worry about and anything thats important to know. and of course the price!

TheSalesman 01-25-2009 06:16 PM

you should ask yourself how much you want to spend and how fast you want it to go first before considering any mods. even the cheapest turbo setup is gonna run you over 2k after all is said and done. Most people go with intake, good header (not DC or megan) and exhaust for bolt ons and then a tune can do pretty well. A header is not just a header. You get what you pay for. So just because you can get an header for 50 bucks, its not gonna be the same as one for 1000. It won't even be a 2 or 3hp difference, but maybe 10 or more.

Leopold Stotch 01-27-2009 12:20 PM

I just re read your original post and you said you dont' want any engine mods. like internals and such

try header exhaust and Hondata. that should give you some more oomph.

bcrdukes 01-27-2009 01:57 PM

Invest in a good:

Intake
Header
Exhaust
Hondata
Dynotune

Call it a day. it's safe, somewhat cheap, and reliable. You have the best of the 3 most important factors when it comes to tuning/modding a car. Turbocharging is possible but you're going to have to invest a bit to get it going right.

But I guess a good question you have to ask yourself is:
What are my power goals and how much money am I willing to spend? Figure that out first.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-28-2009 10:47 PM

my power goal is to win a TL type s... no offense... but i hate TL.... especially rich daddy bought their son a tl and they think is all god mighty... i am probably going to stick with intake header exhaust and hondata, whats dynotune? like just tuning it by going through a dyno run??

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-28-2009 10:48 PM

first the i light weighting the car first. then coilovers.

bcrdukes 01-28-2009 11:29 PM

What?!

Are you actually serious?

Shit son, think about how much money you're going to have to spend in order to beat a TL Type S. There's far much more technology and innovation not only on the motor itself, but also on the drivetrain and suspension tuning. And even if you "beat" a TL Type S, what are you going to prove?

*Sigh!* :(

death_blossom 01-28-2009 11:37 PM

if you want to go faster without modding the engine, start with gearing and transmission. change the final drive to a higher number. you can combine that with a close ratio gearset as well. that will help the car accelerate much faster. a lightweight flywheel helps to let the engine spin up a little faster too.

reduce weight in the car? maybe change the hood to carbon fiber, lightweight battery, and change the seats to light weight sport/bucket seats. also buy some lightweight rims, less rotating mass at the wheel will allow the wheels to spin more quickly.

changing out things like the exhaust and header will also lighten the car since aftermarket stuff is much lighter than the stock components.

you are not going to beat a TL with bolt ons and hondata.
those things can run about 14.5 stock and your lude is pretty far behind.
sorry, not gonna happen

Psykopathik 01-29-2009 09:13 AM

^^^ OMG your sig cracked me up LOL

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-29-2009 08:04 PM

is tl type S that fast? they are pretty heavy... i am better off giving up on cars..

lol, its been there for a long time now.

TL is faster then any stock prelude.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-29-2009 09:06 PM

dammit.... TL are faster, more comfortable, more attractive to girls. why do i even bother modding the prelude. might as well sell it and buy a TL.

bcrdukes 01-29-2009 11:12 PM

^
Yeah. The first step to failure is trying. :)

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-29-2009 11:14 PM

like my friend said..." if you have to mod your car, it is not fast enough"

can I meet your friend? I want to punch him in the head.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-29-2009 11:21 PM

well is true.. whos going to mod a lambo or a caparo?

death_blossom 01-29-2009 11:32 PM

lots of ppl mod lambos, porsches, and ferraris. they modify their cars to make them a little more unique than the rest of the other 'same' cars.

Chan_Mr_Chan 01-30-2009 11:50 AM

i am talking about engine mods
