Imagine something like this happens during the Olympics?
All it took was one dumbass to route 80,000 cars daily to 2 other already shitty bridges for 6 bloody weeks.

my manager usually comes in from delta around 6:45am in vancouver. this morning he drove to the alex fraser and saw total gridlock. went back home (he's about 5 minutes from the bridge) and tried to take the bus, then skytrain... he just got in before lunch
because he has to make up for the time he lost this morning, he will have to leave late this afternoon. he's debating whether to stay at a local motel tonite |

People cant even bike if they wanted to on Port Mann and Alex Fraser...
IMHO I don't get why they don't allow pedestrians or bikers on the pattullo... Compared to the weight of the bridge itself the people weigh next to nothing, and plus there wont be cars or trucks... unless they think the bridge can collapse at any moment or something.
That should relieve a tiny bit of stress if they did it.

That should relieve a tiny bit of stress if they did it. | I think its because its a really small bridge and they don't want drivers worrying about pedestrians? I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the pattullo has a sidewalk with a railing. IMO they shouldn't let big 18 wheelers drive on the Pattullo since its so small.

If not, I have heard of many a truckers says its a standard norm for truckers to avoid that bridge out of sheer preference.

Watch the clip again, then remove YOUR head from YOUR ass. | i can also comfirm that homeless people actually live under that part of the bridge so its more than likely them that started the fire. Onviously for warmth. Cause if someone else did it, u think homeless people is gonna let someone torched there home on fire with all there belongings under there...... i dont think so

Sad that in this country, in this day and age, people still have to resort to living under bridges to survive.
The bridge will be fixed in a month and a half.
Will more homeless shelters be built any time soon?

Will more homeless shelters be built any time soon? | I have a radical idea, lets hire the poor to deport the poor! Its a win-win situation because we give them jobs and export them to other countries. On second thoughts we could draft all of them into the army and send them overseas with minimal training and obsolete equipment. No one will miss them |

You guy's complain, but fuck that is a sad story.
There's too many spoiled fucking brat punks on this site. I've never had to live on a street, and never will, but damn though it might be a pain in the ass with the bridge down, what a sorry existance it must be to resort to sleeping under a bridge in the cold.
It's a damn shame that there are people still out there that have to live like that. With the wealth in this world, we shouldn't have people living in such barbaric conditions. When I heard it was homeless people I could only think about sleeping under that nasty ass bridge beside the water, christ that's depressing.

What you wanna do? Get communism? Don't be stupid.
Life is unfair, but if you think about all the unfortunate incidents that happen to those less fortunate than you, you should be grateful that life is unfair.

Whatever man. I worked in the Prison system, and it's sad the kind of people you run into. A lot of them as stated have serious mental issues, and end up on the streets.
There is absolutely no reason with the wealth in the Western World to have folks living on the streets, without some kind of appropriate housing. The unfortunate fact is that kind of housing isn't really fully available for all those folks.
Say what you want, but think about it when you go to sleep tonight in your warm bed, while someone else is sleeping under a bridge or in alley in Winter Cold.
You have to be a pretty sick person to not have some type of sympathy for these people, personally.

^ Like I said, communism works, but will the people that already have the wealth and comfort be willing to give up?
sheesh. Don't talk like you are a saint, if it's either you or the bum you'd do anything to give him the short end of the stick.
