325ci for something low tone and the average driver

G35 for something flashy and a fun drive

I'd go with the G35.

they are essentially the same. the 07 is obviously more expensive than the 06 because they are newer. but besides that, there were no changes done to the car between those 2 years. everything is the same

Yes indeed...
OT, I saw you have headers but not test pipes or high flow cats?
you will feel a while different car after you got those.
It took me a while to get used to a more free flow car.
Headers are the last bolt on you want to do on a G or 350Z

It took me a while to get used to a car with a better exhaust flow.
Headers should be the last bolt-on mod performed on a G35 or 350Z.

That's a great budget for a first car. I suggest the BMW, but for your price range you could probably go for a later model for under 40k lets say 2007-2008 Bmw 335i Coupe. Its your decision and if you prefer the "classic" beamer I have nothing against that.

^ I'm pretty sure you can't get a 07 or 08 335i for under 40k

The BMW hate in this thread really pisses me off. There's been so many absurd comments that I would like to throw down my 2 cents. Granted, I own a 330, but I drove a G35 extensively before I bought this car and I love them both.

1) Why are you comparing a 325 with a G35 coupe? As a few others have said, that's comparing apples and oranges. A more fair comparison would be the 330ci, as that was really the G35 Coupe's only direct competitor in both price and performance. Better yet, compare with the 330ci ZHP (an up-tuned version of the regular 330ci with 240bhp).

2) Whoever said that the G35 has a nicer interior is smoking some seriously potent sh*t. It's a decent interior in terms of ergonomics, but the quality/fit and finish are light years behind the BMW. The G35 coupe is nice, don't get me wrong, but it feels cheap and plasticky in comparison. The vision is horrible, too.

3) In terms of performance, the 330ci ZHP and the G35 Coupe are extremely similar in both a straight line and around a track. The ZHP has a better steering feel and a smoother engine but the G35 has better torque and LSD. It's definitely a more pure sports car.

4) The G35 cannot mimic the BMW's driving feel, especially a ZHP. It is simply one of the smoothest, most balanced cars ever made - ever. Not to say it's the *best* car ever made, or even any better than the G35 as a whole, but it's extremely smooth and balanced. On the flipside, the G35 has that beautiful exhaust tone and the big V6 with great torque.

5) Looks are personal choice. G35 is flashier and sportier, 330ci is classier and a bit more understated. Overall, I prefer the 330's subtle good looks, but most people are more drawn to the G35's sexiness. I admit it's a beautiful car.

6) In the end, because they're both fantastic cars and can be had for a very similar price and have very similar performance numbers, it all comes down to what you prefer. Do you like refinement, smoothness, and balance? Then you want the BMW. Do you prefer a more raw sporty feel and flashy good looks? Then you want the G35 Coupe.

*steps off soap box*

I still love the 330ci ZHP and imo is one of the best looking BMW's ever made and even with the e92 around the 330ci ZHP is still quite a looker and a classy looking car.

If you're getting an 05+ G, watch out for the oil consumption problem. It affects most rev-up motors.

To the person who asked if the 03-04's are shit? No they're not. The engine red-lines at a lower rpm and has a lower peak HP, but has a higher peak torque. The 6mt models of 03-04 also come with brembo brakes which the 05+ do not. The 03-04 are 18" wheels as opposed to 19" of the 05+
