many questions about gaming on PC and Xbox360

xbox360 is getting cheap now so im considering it as a gaming machine for my 42" lcd (1080p res) instead of using my PC (7800gt... could put in a 4850 but its $150. xbox360 is $200).

PC Qs:
for COD5, is it possible to have 2 ppl play together in co-op mode, offline(like, split screen)?

Xbox360 Qs:
whats the difference between Xbox 360 arcade, pro and elite?

can i play HD videos (.mkv) by plugging in a usb hdd?

which xbox360's have the flashable dvd drive?

can i load xbox360 games from pc onto the xbox360 hdd and then play it from the hdd?

which xbox360's have HDMI output?

wat games do u prefer in xbox360 instead of PC?

Arcade comes with only the console in WHITE with no chrome trim i believe, and a WIRED controller in WHITE, NO HARDRIVE
(althoght a few months back MS was offering 20GB referb drives for $20 due to the new xbox dashboard interface needing more space, if u buy that 20GB hdd it'll estentiall turn ur arcade into pro)

Pro comes with console in WHITE with chrome trim, WIRELESS controller in WHITE, and a 20GB HDD.

Elite comes with console in BLACK with chrome trim, WIRELESS controller in BLACK, and a 120GB HDD.

can i play HD videos (.mkv) by plugging in a usb hdd?

not sure if u can, but if i recall, the USB ports on the xbox is almost useless, it's only there to connect xbox items only, eg: controller, memory card. it cannot read my USB flash drive when i pluged it in, so i would guess that a USB HDD doesnt work.

which xbox360's have the flashable dvd drive?

not sure but google is ur friend.

can i load xbox360 games from pc onto the xbox360 hdd and then play it from the hdd?

no as that is estentially playing FAKE games which will get u banned, unless u never plan on hooking up the ethernet cable.

which xbox360's have HDMI output?

All xbox with FALCON chips comes with HDMI ports, again google is ur friend. look up how to tell if the xbox ur buying is the new versions with the FALCON chip. u also want falcon chips anyways cause it runs cooler, so less chance of RROD

wat games do u prefer in xbox360 instead of PC?

pro comes with 60GB
premium came with 20GB and its discontinued for a while
all brand new xbox will have HDMI

you need matching hardware to flash your dvd drive, I've studied at least 2 weeks and gave up doing it by myself...I paid $40 to someone and got it flashed, no problem so far.

nope, it won't play mkv, it won't detect 2.5" usb HDD

go wiki it if you want more info

If your used to shooting with a mouse... like CS and shit your going to suck balls on the 360 and get pissed off like me.

360 needs a different piece to play HD DVD's.

Berz out.

360 takes awhile to get used to the controller for FPS, Single player is fine, but multiplayer....I've played like 700 or 800 Halo games, and it still pisses me off.

plugging in a USB flash drive does work as i have done it many times to watch movies.

For flashing the drives i found that the "unbreakable" BenQ drives were the easies to flash, 10 Mins Max. Also get a xbox with a hard drive, so you can save most of your games, also you can acctually copy original 360 games straight to your hard drive so you dont have to load a dvd. Online games are freaking great!!!!!! Also Headset is a MUST!!!!! You can get wired or wireless, wireless requires a stonger voice tone to activate it, while the wired can even catch soft speaking... COD and NHL are byfar my most favorite games... Best part is it loads 100 Times faster on games than a pc. Ultimate media centre aswell! If your xbox doesnt come with a headset, i recommend getting the combo set with the keyboard, just makes it easier to type when sending messages. You will feel outta place if you dont have a mic...

_Hotsauce_ 02-02-2009 10:25 AM

In regards to wired mics, the only problem is they can be unplugged very easy...sucks moving around and yanking it out int he middle of a game

I dont know where your remote goes, but when i play i sit down and remote is always infront of me, if i'm walking around, then i put the remote in my back pocket.... I never really have the thing pull out on me, only happened like once or twice, not a big issue at all. Then again wireless you can hear what their saying when ur in the washroom :P...

Hondaracer 02-02-2009 11:11 AM

Wireless headset is a must IMO

The arcade model actually comes with a wireless controller not wired, but if u want to play online or even update to the new dashboard u will need a HD

.Renn.Sport 02-02-2009 11:40 AM

arcade all come with a memory card and the newer ones comes with onboard memory, those are enough to have the dashboard upgrade.

hamhead 02-02-2009 11:42 AM

well ive looked on craigslist and ive found a couple. im just contemplating whether to get:

premium, 20gb, HDMI, 1 wireless controller, modded, for $240
or
arcade, 1 wireless controller, 1 game, for $175 (hopefully its HDMI)
or
pro, 20gb, no HDMI, 2 wireless controller, wired headset, external fan, for $190

im planning to hook it up to a 42" 1080p LCDTV. will i notice a difference between Component and HDMI??? as you can see, there is so much more value buying non HDMI

Jermyzy 02-02-2009 12:21 PM

I'm running my xbox360 on componenet cables on my 52" LCD TV and it looks fine to me. I even use it to watch my DVDs as I'm too cheap to buy a separate DVD palyer :lol

Dragon-88 02-02-2009 03:55 PM

HDMI all the way!

You can update to the new dashboard with the basic 256MB memory card they give you. Depending on the games you play, a HD may be needed. I still have 90MB on my memory card, but I only play NHL09/Guitar Hero.

asian_XL 02-02-2009 09:51 PM

FYI, component cable can go up to 1080p

hamhead 02-02-2009 10:07 PM

dammit.. i really wanna get a modded one... but that guy is asking $240.

if i go buy an arcade version it will be 240 after tax then another 40 to mod so 280 and ill get the same thing except no hdd

Razor Ramon HG 02-02-2009 10:34 PM

You can probably mod it yourself if you're familiar with opening apart things like a PC.

hamhead 02-03-2009 12:16 AM

ya im very familiar with doing that. how hard would it be though?

i also want to get a hdd for it too.... where can i get one for cheap?

.Renn.Sport 02-03-2009 03:28 AM

gtfo if u are too cheap to buy games

asian_XL 02-03-2009 04:34 AM

I bet your parents will tell you to gtfo if they know how much money and time you have spent on games

Hondaracer 02-03-2009 07:38 AM

I wonder wtf is taking up all my space, I have the arcade with the 20gig upgrade and I only have 11 left.. Play quite a few games though I guess

.Renn.Sport 02-03-2009 07:50 AM

4GB are for reserved and 2GB is for backward compatibility
usable space is only 13GB on the 20GB

VR6GTI 02-03-2009 08:15 AM

save yourself the money and just get a 42" 720p. You cant tell the difference from 720p to 1080p on a 42"
