Tamiya Mini 4WD

I don't know if you guys remember playing with these when you were younger but I remember back in the day they were extremely popular.
Well I was scrolling through youtube and came across this, everything is cooler filmed with a highspeed camera , just thought I'd share ;)

seakrait 02-02-2009 10:49 PM

yoall 02-02-2009 10:50 PM

Jackygor 02-02-2009 11:08 PM

Man, I fucken love these things, I remember I always buy the fake ones since I don't have money for the real shit

I am totally down to buy some online right now if someone here has a track to race on :haha:

roastpuff 02-02-2009 11:29 PM

Just wondering... the drive wheels are mounted on the axle like on a go-kart. Do they design different axle rates like with go-karts?

Tim Budong 02-03-2009 12:01 AM

my hurricane sonic was awesome

Levitron 02-03-2009 12:08 AM

I went through two waves of this stuff. First when I was in HK, then again when I was here when it got popular again.

I wasted so much money on this stuff...

But I learned a lot too...like building things, taking stuff apart, learning the concept of "standardized parts", etc.

agentcloud 02-03-2009 12:19 AM

anyone remember this?

the 20min. advertisement to sell these cars.. (just like transformers, gi joe, etc..)

dude... don't even TRY to compare these to the toys today. Toys now-a-days are junk. Just compare the transformers of then to the transformers of now!

.Renn.Sport 02-03-2009 05:37 AM

i remember learning a lot of car tuning concepts from playing with these cars
weight reduction, differentials, gear tuning, chassis reinforcement

asian_XL 02-03-2009 06:32 AM

I used to have a 20,000rpm electric motor...then I used more copper wires to make it
spin even faster. Swear to god, it could go faster than a ferrari in 1/8 mile.

but it was fucking stupid. you let it go and it never stops and comes back, you getta
run miles away to get it back :lol. Also I have way too many got ran over by cars.

+Kardboard+ 02-03-2009 07:02 AM

Damn, I gotta dig these out and find out what I have again hahahah

Ferra 02-03-2009 07:35 AM

i remember my dad wired the copper motor for me, and it was much faster than anything you could buy on the market...

But the motor became so hot that it melted the motor casing after 5 mins :(

I remember my dad used to be so into it.....we held a race for everyone in our apartment at the time....and our winner was one that had twin motors in it...^^

It was going so fast that we had to put pieces and pieces of iron on top of it so it wouldn't fly out the track....xDD
