Yup, I went to the game with a friend on Monday night thanks to another friend.
One friend won a pair of tickets via a Virgin Radio 94.5 contest on Instagram. That friend could not make it to the game so he gave me a pair of tickets to the game. Sweet!
Great seats! Upper bowl, centre court, Section 323, Row 13 Balcony area.
The market for NBA games is still quite big in the Lower Mainland.
This pre-season game between the Nuggets vs. Raptors was sold out.
People were re-selling their tickets on Ticketmaster for the price of Canucks regular season tickets hahah.
For example, the tickets that a buddy gave me would be about $119 per ticket.
People were selling tickets in the upper bowl, centre court rows for $225 each.
I saw plenty of parents bring their kids to watch this pre-season game. Quite a few young people, Gen Zs, were at the game.
-certainly a more diverse group of fans at NBA games compared to a Canucks game.
I saw fans from all ethnic groups. White, Asian (Philipino, Chinese, Indian)), etc.
Some teenagers and adults were wearing Raptors and Nuggets jerseys at the game too.
Fellow Canadians Jamal Murray and RJ Barrett thanked the fans before the game for their attendance. As RJ said to the fans "We are here to put on a good show for you. Let's get it!!"
Highlights from the game:
Jamal Murray and Jokic are superstar and NBA All Star players for a reason .
They played most of the 1st half of the game.
Jokic is a great shooter and passer.
Murray as the point guard is also a good shooter with his mid range shot. -attacks the basket well with his moves and footwork.
Jokic is the Serbian beast. Raptors are pretty weak at the center position.
They have nobody with the size and speed to guard Jokic. The big dude just kept attacking the paint, playing his game in the post and getting free throws. The Raptors were in foul trouble early in the game.
Scottie Barnes trying to guard Jokic is big mismatch in favour of Jokic.
There is no way that Scottie B. can defend against Jokic.
In addition, the Nuggets outrebounded the Raptors big time.
Newest Raptors player Brandon Ingram is a good shooter. He creates space for his team with his size and shooting ability.
The best play for the Raptors was a 3 on 1 fast break. RJ Barrett with the pass to Scottie Barnes for the dunk. Poor Jokic had no chance to defend a 3 on 1 fast break hahaha
Gradey Dick? Limp Dick performance overall last night from Grady. 0 for 3 for his first three shot attempts. Grady needs to work on his defensive game. He needs to work on his footwork. He made one 3 pointer. -missed some open shots.
The biggest cheers for the Raptors was in the fourth quarter. Grady attacked the basket from the Nuggets' baseline. Two defenders were guarding him. Grady makes the basket with a lay up after some hard contact from one of the Nuggets players.
Unfortunately, one of the refs called Gradey for an offensive foul.
Former Raptors player Jonas Valancunias came off the bench in the second half as the Nuggets center. Jonas is a decent shooter in the mid range. Horrible free throw shooter though.
Aaron Gordon did not play the game because of injury. He was on the court with one of the coaches before the team warm ups to practice his crossover dribbles.
The second half of the game was quite close. Fans loved the very competitive game. Nuggets win 112-108.
There were plenty of contest sponsors for this pre-season game.
One guy won a $250 Subway gift card for guessing the correct basket on the scoreboard screen had the virtual basketball. Subway also gave $25 gift cards to all the fans sitting in the same row as that guy winning the $250 gift card.
Reese's Peeses toques for the loudest cheering fans in the lower bowl of Rogers Arena.
$500 gift card from Cerave (Dermatology skin products) for one fan with the smoothest dance moves.
Tangerine Bank half court shot contest. The dude who got picked for this contest was wearing a Raptors jersey and hat. Some fans booed this fan because he made a half hearted shot attempt from half court. I mean, dude, at least try to push off the court with your legs to get lift on your shot.
That fan won a consolation prize when he made an easy layup on a kids height basketball stand with the hoop at least 3 times the size of a NBA hoop haha.
Overall, it was a competitive and fun game to watch. The Raptors house DJ is very good. Many fans were dancing to the DJ's music during game time outs.
The Raptors mascot, The Raptor, has good dance moves too hahaa.
Former NBA players Danny Green and Isaiah Thomas (Celtics player) were at the game.
Whitecaps player Thomas Muller and two of his team mates were also at the game.
