I know telus i can go over by like 100GB and they wouldnt give a rat's ass :D

dunno but i'm on telus too and i download like crazy. i think my plan is like 60gb limit but I usually download 200gb+. I've gotten a couple letter in the mail to tone down my act but porn/movies/music is just too tempting. Plus, if I get the boot I'll just sign up for shaw. The companies will give you some lee way but if you blatantly go above your limit they will start hassling you.

alex.w *// 02-19-2009 10:07 PM

i got this email as well

how do i use power boost?

lilaznviper 02-19-2009 10:22 PM

i think power boost kicks in when u download for the first 10 seconds or something

now my net is upgraded

downloading off BT at 770kb/s :D

with shaw i use a ton of bandwidth about 300gb+ per month and never got charged or call from shaw

hongy 02-19-2009 10:24 PM

Does it cost money to switch to a moto router?

FiveDime 02-19-2009 10:24 PM

You heard this on revscene first

100Mbps downstream, 5Mbps upstream "High-Speed Nitro" 200GB cap $249.95 per month

skyxx 02-19-2009 10:54 PM

^ Heard about it few weeks ago. They are currently testing that service in Saskatchewan. :) Anyway, I wish Telus would auto upgrade our speeds... :/

Hondaracer 02-19-2009 11:23 PM

It is free to swap to a Moto if you have Terayon. Bring it to the 3 stores in downtown, north van, or surrey. If you really really cant make it then call the tech helpline and they can send a tech to swap it. The reason why Terayon is slow because it is on an older network infrastructure compare to Moto. The company is now concentrating its resources on the latest DOCIS 3.0 network.

And dont forget to bypass your router and firewalls if you want to test out your true speed. :)

yeah, I wish I had atleast 1mbps upload rate because I upload stuff to a friend ftp site :(. I'm getting 60k max upload

ericthehalfbee 02-20-2009 06:58 AM

I noticed Shaw says up to 15mbps for Extreme. I'm on Telus and just checked their site and they now have their enhanced high speed and they list "10-15 mbps" which I'm assuming means I should get 10 as the minimum and may get up to 15.

I used to be on Shaw, but too many assholes in my area hogging bandwidth so my connection was always slow. At least with Telus I always got the same speed, even though it was slower.

I just signed up for the Telus Enhanced and I'll do some speed tests to see if I really get the "10-15 mbps" they claim. If not, then I'm going to switch back to Shaw and try their Extreme.

Funny thing, Telus wants 50.95 per month for enhanced which is the same price Shaw lists for Extreme if you're not part of a bundle. And they both say 100GB limits and 15mbps top speed. That seems like quite the coincidence to me. :)

I remember going over the limit one time and getting an email from shaw. Toned down the downloading and haven't heard anything since then. This was a couple of years ago though. Good to hear that they aren't too strict about it.
