Shaw upgrade internet speed

I have not received an email, but here is the insert from someone else's who posted it:

"We have good news for you. Shaw is committed to bringing you the very best products and services, and that includes the FASTEST Internet at the best value. As a result we are making significant upgrades to our network in your area which will allow us to increase your Shaw High-Speed Xtreme-I Internet download speed by 50%, from 10 Mbps to 15 Mbps! This will not affect your monthly cost for High-Speed Xtreme-I; your bill will remain exactly the same."

http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...rnet/Xtreme-I/

Those with 5Mbps will be bumped up to 7.5 Mbps

I get a whopping 20000+ kb/s.

That's good news! I'm on xtreme-I and am still getting around 10 Mbps. I'll be curious to see if my neighborhood gets this upgrade.

skyxx 02-19-2009 12:32 PM

You should call shaw suppport and see if you can get it swapped for the Motorola.

I was having connection problems with the Teryon. After replacing it with the Motorola, internet speeds were much faster and stable.

yah I called a couple months ago when I was having connection problems. he told me to come change it, and I'd have a note next to my name. I'm just too lazy to unhook it and take it down :D... I'll probably do it next week.

yeah do it asap. I never listened to people when they told me that the teryon sucked ass. I went from 5mbps to 22mbps, so its worth it

johny 02-19-2009 04:58 PM

well it seems I'm about 1.5 right now !... all I do is surf though, not download, so it won't make much diff to me.

johny 02-19-2009 05:53 PM

woot, got an email 5 mins ago :D... next week I'll go change my modem

tiger_handheld 02-19-2009 06:21 PM

man im on 54G .. this will not apply to me...
sux ass!

twitchyzero 02-19-2009 06:31 PM

why's everyone's upload rate so low?? What's the advertised upseed for regular and the xterme ? IMO upload speed is important for torrents.

I'm considering switching over to the regular 7.5mbps from the 3.0mbps regular telus...how much are you guys paying a month? On the flyer it only says the rate for like the first few months...

way2quik 02-19-2009 07:53 PM

REgular high speed, Up is 500, which is around 45-50kb/s.

AsBannedAsItGets 02-19-2009 08:00 PM

there's not that much of an advantage getting faster download numbers except you can download files faster. the only problem is that all the ISP companies have limits so once you downloaded your alloted bandwidth usage, you can't download anymore. kind of defeats the purpose of having a fast connection to download files. Normal internet browsing doesn't benefit from having a faster download speed. YOu can browse on on 1.5mps

what's the bandwidth for regular shaw? are they pretty strict on enforcing it?

I know telus i can go over by like 100GB and they wouldnt give a rat's ass :D
