well 100-150 isnt' a lot in term of headphones

i think a better question to ask is what are the best sets that do not need to be driven by an amp. i was reading that maybe the hd550s? the 600 would def. need an amp

ps. go ear the dr. dre's for urself. the amount of distortion on those things is ridiculous

Headphones or headsets? For headphones I'd suggest Sennheiser HD280 or the Sony MDR-V7506. Both are studio headphones and can handle quite a bit of abuse.

Headsets... the Sennheiser PC151/160 I recommended above. That's pretty sturdy too, but not as good as the studio headphones.

The consumer ones do. I'm recommending their professional line (MDR-7506/7509) which are far sturdier - my school studio uses them, and they're probably the most wide-spread studio headphones in the world due to price/sound/sturdiness combination.

EDIT: The 7506 should be around $100 at Tom Lee or Long & McQuade.
