Diesel powered GTR!

So I was chillin' at the Nissan dealership last night because a couple of my friends work there and I was checkin' out a brand spankin' new 370Z (which is off-topic but the car is pretty hawt, well maybe except for the taillight haha) Anyway it looks way better in person. The pictures don't do it justice.

Back on topic; so my buddy working there tells me they just got a WHITE  (yes, white) GTR towed into their lot this afternoon. So from basic my knowledge there aren't any white GTRs in Van? Apparently it was originally Gunmetal but the first owner actually painted it white, to top it off it was painted the wrong white, it's not even the GTR pearl white. It's like some kind of Pontiac Sunfire white. He then decided to sell it to some dude (天才) and now this 2nd owner ...

... decided to fill his gas tank with DIESEL FUEL!! He then left a statement claiming he drove it for a couple minutes and the car died, it wouldn't even start and he didn't know why!
So he had the car towed to Nissan but the GTR Specialist Tech wasn't in so he'll be taking a look at it tomorrow ...

Gosh I don't even know if I should be laughing or crying ... what a waste of a beautiful car ...
I wonder, is the car still saveable? It's already severely depreciated with the paint job and now the messed engine ... I wonder if it's still worth anything ...

tonyvu 02-24-2009 06:56 PM

wtf? how dumb can you be to fill a gasoline car with diesel.... such a waste.

cococly 02-24-2009 06:57 PM

why isn't there any White GTR in Van? I do not get it?

I wonder if the car is under warranty for the engine.

Is it a joke?

impactX 02-24-2009 07:02 PM

The diesel nozzle won't even a car that runs on gasoline.

Volvo-brickster 02-24-2009 07:04 PM

my friend put diesel in his neon

it can be done

it has been done

jing 02-24-2009 07:04 PM

The "wrong" white to you might've been the "right" white for him.

OMG...weird how I see this thread today.

I was in the States with my wife this weekend and I was driving home and needed to stop for gas. I take the next exit into Arlington, WA where there's a Chevron station. Stopped at the exit of the gas station was a absolutely stunning white GTR with BC plates. I start filling up gas and see the driver pop his hood. After I finish pumping gas I walk over to see what was going on....the owner (Taiwanese guy in his 20s with his dad) said he just purchased the car the day before and it won't start now. He's on the phone with Nissan at 8pm on Saturday night bitching at them. The car was only 1 day old!!! Anyways...he let me get in to try it...starter sounded fine and everything was lit so it didn't seem like a battery issue. I offered him a ride but he was reluctant to leave the car in booney town. I wish him luck and drive off. After about 20 minutes of driving it occurs to me.....holy shit....what happens if he filled it up with Diesel....

I decided to turn around as I know what it feels like to be stranded and not know what's wrong with the car. Of course when I got there he was still on the phone....I asked him...which pump did you use? The red (gas) or the green (diesel). He replies "What do you mean!!?". I bring him over to the pump. In Vancouver the one on the right is usually 94 octane and diesel is a seperate pump but in the states diesel is connected and is where the 94 octane is. He replies "OMG...I used the green one". I was like...how'd you get it in? The nozzle is a different shape. He apparently kind of forced it in. He thought it was because it was American.

So...ended up killing the one-day old GTR by filling it with Diesel. It was going to be towed to the nearest Nissan dealership 20mi away. Who knows how much it's going to cost. Thought you would enjoy the story...I'm going to post this in the general forums as well.

That must be the worst feeling ever. How he messed up his 1 day old GTR from such a mistake.

wtf? i'm not understanding it here.... first the op said its a white GTR then say there are no skyline in white.... and i just saw a white skyline GTR the other day on barnet....

so was it a GTR (R35) or a Skyline GTR (R32) that was originally gun metal and painted white?

By Skyline I'm referring to the same car (R35). I thought there were no white GTR's in Van yet (like, originally white from Nissan)... or at least at the time the first owner purchased it there was none. He wanted a white GTR so he bought a gunmetal GTR and painted it, but he didn't even match it with the real GTR pearl white, just some flat domestic white. Everyone at Nissan was calling it the "fake gtr" and everyone would know which car they were referring to.

b-dub 02-24-2009 08:03 PM

1) This was the car the one that was sold at southside for 110k
2) It was sold to a young asian guy
3) The car is now at Richmond Nissan because the diesel is in the injectors + fuel lines
4) There is more than one white one
5) This is the factory white pearl, not one that was originally gun metal.

R35 is not a Skyline

Obsideon 02-24-2009 08:14 PM

1) Not what the dealership told me but oh well that's not the point anyway ...
2) Yeah I figured that much ...
3) Bingo!
4) Good to get that clarified.
5) Same as #1

Can it be saved? Will there be any warranty or will the engine need to be replaced?... and at what cost? ...

So many different perspectives on this story. Here's one from someone that works at a Nissan dealership on Nasioc

Can't they read the word "gas" or "diesel" .....?

It's not that bad, "just" a $100k car.

How would we react if someone put diesel into a Ferrari Enzo...

empty the tank. fill with a small amount of gasoline. run engine until no more diesel. fill up tank. car = back to normal. iv seen it done.

But he ran the car to the ground running ON diesel ... from what I heard the car doesn't even start anymore! So there goes that solution ...

Plus even if that did work I'm sure the sensors and all those sensitive gizmos that come with that 110k+ car are gonna be all whack!

EuroTRASH 02-24-2009 09:04 PM

^It doesn't run because there's diesel in it.

A gasoline engine won't ignite diesel. That's why it won't run or start.

I doubt there's any permanent damage.

alex.w *// 02-24-2009 09:26 PM

pics of the white gtr?

mrclean604 02-24-2009 09:33 PM

lol gasoline fail.

skyxx 02-24-2009 09:34 PM

^ Won't be too bad, Just drain out the diesel fuel, and clean the fuel system. Replace fuel injectors and Fuel filter. Let it run for a while with Gasoline and it should be fine after a day or two. It would be quite troublesome since/if the cylinders were filled with fuel. :) Anyway, wish the car good luck....
