whats so hot about twitter? isn't it kind of like facebook mobile where it updates an individual about the poster?

Ikkaku 03-05-2009 05:11 PM

they were talking about this on The Beat when I was driving home... but I still fail to see what's so special about it compared to facebook/xanga

let's see what this hype is about

Twitter isn't for everyone, but it's a good way to get information about people in a stream-lined matter, it basically gets rid of all the extra shit that most sites would have, and just provides the information you want. Its also handy for networking, for whatever purpose you see fit, but for me it would be for Business/Web Developers. Here's a simple example of how I would network..

(Me) KeeganT: Looking for web developer to design simple site
(someone whos following me) Jonbob: @KeeganT is looking for web developers for a small web project ("Retweet" or Repost)
(All of jonbobs friends see this message)
Jeffjack (One of jonbobs friends): @Lushloo(One of Jeffjacks friends) Yo man, @KeeganT is looking for a web developer, give him a shout for some work.

Also, if you were following Kevin Rose (Digg) or Mark ZUzkekekbuerg (Facebook) any useful bits of information/articles/videos they may post you could see. Which is very useful for me as it's business related. But it could be the same for cars, horses, or anything else.

It's like sending a regular text message. If you have a data plan and a smartphone, using a mobile app is much better though.

I primarily use for my all-in-one news source. I follow the Globe and Mail, Vancouver Courier, CNN, CKNW, the Georgia Straight. I also follow people/things that I'm interested in; climbing, boing boing, some local celebs, some musicians. I know I could RSS all of this stuff but I never really got into the RSS things. None of my friends are on Twitter which is nice cause I don't understand having 'conversations' on Twitter.

I don't know if you'd have discussions, but more just comment, or provide thoughts, on a specific topic. I love it more every day :)

Armind 03-11-2009 09:49 PM

Armind 03-11-2009 11:59 PM

Twitter mobile site or fring, both on S60.

RRxtar 03-12-2009 10:44 PM

forgive my ignorance but from a quick peek at what its about, it seems twitter focusses on exactly what alot of people i know are actually quitting facebook for?

instantly knowing trivial bits of information about what someone is doing, about people i really dont care to know trivial bits of information about?

It takes abit of getting used to. I just found someone to do a custom 3ftx2ft Marvel style painting on Twitter, useful to me.

that's about what I got from it. kinda like that iphone application that uses your GPS location and what is known to be at that location/what you tell it you're doing to inform all your friends where you are and what you're doing at all times.
