why does surrey feel like the states?

hi I'm new to Metro Vancouver, however I have noticed that Surrey is particularly different from the rest of the cities in Metro Vancouver. Firstly, why are there a lot of pickup trucks running around in Surrey? Secondly, why does Surrey look so poor? Thirdly, why aren't there a lot of greens in Surrey?
I'm living in the West End in UBC and the difference is quite significant whenever I commute to Surrey. The people feels different as well. I can't explain it, does anyone have any clues why I feel this way?

life styles are different in different regions. More people have trucks in Surrey cause you dont have to worry about parking and traffic.

And of course so we all can drink beer, go play in mud and sleep with are sisters

Ch28 03-03-2009 07:46 PM

Welcome to Surrey! :bowrofl:

Qasual 03-03-2009 07:55 PM

It's just dull here lol. :D

BoneThug 03-03-2009 07:59 PM

the ratio of imports to domestics decreases as you get further away from metro van. however, theres tons of 'greens' whatever that even means. maybe trees? i dont know.

also, you sound poor and uneducated. how did you get into ubc? are you taking communications?

Culture_Vulture 03-03-2009 08:10 PM

it's one of those things you'll eventually understand as you continue to live here.
can't put it in any other way.

Could it be? Tic Tac reincarnated???

But really, saying that Surrey is a dump is a blind statement. Sure it has its bad areas, but then again, so do the rest of the cities in metro van. Look at south van, parts of newton, guildford, etc. Lots of good places, lots of parks, several golf courses. I had the choice to leave when I moved out, but I love it here.

No offense intended but I thought this was one of those horrible google translations at work or something.

And OT, Surrey is fine. It has a bad rep but it's not nearly as bad as people say. You must have just been in a bad area. If all anyone saw of Van was east Hastings then they'd think this city was a shithole too.

Durrann1984 03-03-2009 09:39 PM

surrey has everything vancouver has

hk20000 03-03-2009 09:53 PM

^ Except East Hastings.

orange7 03-03-2009 10:15 PM

surrey is just surrey..

self explanatory..

Surrey's DTES is Whalley.

And for the bad rep that Surrey has, it honestly isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Just like every other city in BC (nay, the world), there are good parts and there are bad parts. Vancouver has the DTES, Surrey has Whalley, Langley has 56th Ave/200th St, and Port Moody has... well, Port Moody. :D

Burnaby is in the clear!

Surrey is really messed up. You have parts that are full of fobs, mixed in with trailer trash and Delta which is full of people who think they're living in West Vancouver or something. For some reason the mix in Surrey doesn't work out that well compared to other parts of the Lower Mainland.
