I don't know about level 1 but the people at my work do level 3 and its like a 2 week course if you do it fulltime, and it's good for 2 years. I think you can do it at places like st johns ambulance and others.

basic level 1 is a 1day course that costs $100 or so. I got my OFA level 2 from Valley first aid in Langley. I have been to st johns before and I didn't like the clases.

level one is one day. easy, and pretty borring. how to put a bandaid on... or call 911 if they need anything more then that. I found it lame. but it was paid by work, and got the day off work, so can't complain.

In Vancouver, I took the course offered by Trama Tec in Yaletown and renewed it a few times are Care on Commercial drive and 14th ave.
I've had my level 2 for almost 8 years now.

Level one is 8 hours and goes over vary basic first aid. If the work place has 50 employees or less, then level 1 is fine. Anymore than that, and you need level 2, is 5 days worth of classes and practical.
Level 3 is for people who work in the wilderness or is a paramedic. Level three you learn everything in level 2 and how to use a spine board and neck brace.

 | Yes and no. Knowing CPR and basic first aid can save a life, but after a few years of not using/practicing it, a person tends to forget what they learned.
I'm the last guy they call for emergency's at work, and when it comes time to renewing my Level 2, I've forgotten quite a lot of it. And of course, every few years, they change some of the procedures. It is quite useful to renew the certificate every 2 years.
