PIN Number Reversal - Good Tip?

Got this in an e-mail..

Quote:

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcast on CTV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. I checked with my Bank to see if this was correct and staff said yes this information is correct.

Neat! Im guessing pin numbers that are like 2112 aren't accepted when you sign up for a debit card

Presto 03-14-2009 11:10 PM

Snopes says false

JSALES 03-14-2009 11:11 PM

oh shitty, guess the e-mail is a lie that's why i had the question mark after the topic because i didn't really know if it was true or not.. haha

Then why would your bank say it's correct? Unless it's just the bank you go to. Or the staff has no idea what they're talking about. Oh well, who knows...

What bank do you use anyways?

i didn't check with the bank. that part being said was part of the e-mail, i should've taken it out so people don't get confused

Ludepower 03-15-2009 12:43 AM

Heard about it..is it true or false?

nabs 03-15-2009 12:45 AM

that would be a really smart system..

fobulaus 03-15-2009 12:53 AM

would be awesome of this was true....

Harvey Specter 03-15-2009 12:56 AM

Smart idea but not enough resources for it to work.

JSALES 03-15-2009 01:31 AM

maybe we should call our banks and see if it's true

TheRaySta 03-15-2009 03:07 AM

It's pretty hard to push your pin backwards when you're not getting robbed let alone when you have a gun pointed at you all nervous.

Oops, I guess I missed the email part...

azzurro32 03-15-2009 07:37 AM

plus it would probably take the cops 5-10 mins to even show up

ZhangFei 03-15-2009 08:47 AM

did it also say that if you forward the email to 15+ people your crush will kiss you?

MegaMx 03-15-2009 09:54 AM

"cash dispensing in 5-10 minutes, please wait"

Manic! 03-15-2009 10:42 AM

What if your pin was 4114?

This it 100% fake.

InvisibleSoul 03-15-2009 11:06 AM

Yeah, seriously... that whole paragraph doesn't just scream bullshit to you?

6thGear. 03-15-2009 11:31 AM

Why don't you try it and let us know if it works.

InvisibleSoul 03-15-2009 12:30 PM

And what if someone had a PIN like 1231, but he accidentally types in 1321? Police will be dispatched every single time this happens? Come on... think about it.

Nvasion 03-15-2009 12:39 PM

fake i read about this and on a tv show it said it was fake... another thing that is fake is that if you left your keys in your car and locked it you can call home or whereever the other immobilizer is and tell them to unlock it... that is also fake

shenmecar 03-15-2009 01:18 PM

somebody should give it a try.

Durrann1984 03-15-2009 01:41 PM

yeah takes 5-10 minutes to get the cops to come anyway

takes me 1 minute to steal cash and run.

JSALES 03-15-2009 01:43 PM

okay, it's fake then. my bad for posting it haha
