hit and run, found the hit and runner..

my car was parked last night, when i came out the mirror was on the ground, no damage to the car but the drivers side mirror on the ground with white peices(white from a white car), my car was red so there could be no white peices from my car.. walked up the block and what do u know theres a white car with its mirror damaged with red markings on the white cars mirror..

what i want to know is, if i report this to icbc do i gotta pay the 300 deductible? havnt made a claim to icbc yet gonna leave a note on his window? what should i do?

Edit: this was about 2-3 am last night and he/she left no note or anything.. maybe drunk driver? well could i report this to the police for hit and running? i have his mirrow and it has hints of red from my car..

Without any witnessess, it may be hard to get ICBC to waive the deductable. Take lots of pics of the white car with the damage and call ICBC. I don't know if approaching the owner of the white car will help as it is your word against theirs.

Why not call ICBC and see what they say?

i actualy have a witness, my mothers friend was sleepin over and she heard a bang and looked out the window and a white car took off, she didnt know what realy happened so didnt do anything about it...i am gona take a bunch of pics right now and leave a not on the window, maybe they will admit that they hit the car and everythings good, the thing is my insurance has no deductable so not sure if insurance iwll covor gona go talk to them in a bit.

ICBC might all in the both of you on the same day, have you sit in the office and bring in the other party. They may line up both cars and estimate wether or not it was him.

c32 03-21-2009 03:26 PM

everything seems fine now, when i was snappin the pics he came out n offered me 200 bucks so i took it... is this illegal to not go threw icbc?

Raid3n 03-21-2009 03:28 PM

icbc wont use your mothers friend as a witness as she is considered biased.

take all your evidence and present it to icbc. i hope you took a lot of pictures.

No it is not illegal. You can settle it privately, but $200? Might cost you more than that to fix it at a bodyshop. Youre best to report it to ICBC now, since he pretty much admitted the guilt by paying you $200 and have the claim a claim in hand.

6insomnia9 03-21-2009 04:32 PM

Where was this?

underscore 03-21-2009 04:40 PM

can't you just call the non emergency Police line, tell them your car was hit and run and you can see the car down the road?

$200 will not cover your mirror. Parts are expensive, not to mention (chargeable) labor involved.

..used parts? maybe, as long as you can find same mirror with same color out the outer cover from a junker.

BoS_DC2 03-21-2009 06:08 PM

Good luck finding a painted red mirror for under $200. What kind of car do you have?

umpadupa 03-23-2009 12:09 AM

IMO.. side mirror brand new runs around $300.. and + work =.. some thing LOL i donno.. but honestly. if he admits it.. take it 2 ICBC it will be cheaper for u.. ORR u can mess wif him and try 2 get like $500 or somehting off him. do the scare about court and hit and run and insurance going up.. hes gonna cave LOL

azzurro32 03-23-2009 07:42 AM

Just tell him the $200 isnt enuff to cover the cost of it getting it fixed. he can either pay the invoice of the repair, or you will go through ICBC. It's not worth trying to get more money off of him. He may just go through ICBC but then you will have a mark on your car report in case you'd like to sell it in the future.

But deff dont accept the $200

umpadupa 03-23-2009 05:52 PM

^ of course .. his way is legal. . . .

Inaii 03-23-2009 07:34 PM

He took the $200 already he said. I'd say it's too late for him.

umpadupa 03-23-2009 08:27 PM

^ NO!!! u take the $200 and say he never paied LOL then u give the $200 to icbc and say he tried to bribe me LOLLL jkss man..

hope he didn't sign papers stating that he took some money!

i had this happen once, my rear bumper was scraped up. the person parking next to me in the parking garage had my paint on their bumper.

i called icbc, they brought both cars in and matched it up. i got my bumper painted with no deductible.

pricks key'd my car when they moved out though (i had to pay the deductible then because there was no way to prove they did it).

racerman88 03-25-2009 03:44 PM

always go through ICBC. The person responsible can always pay them back to bring their premium down

c32 04-06-2009 02:06 PM

premium down? i always thuoght the person whos at fault of the accident would make their insurance more expensive? thats why when im at fault i do it privately.. well the car was a beater so i got 400 in total out of him and picked up a used part, pocketed 200 dollars

Presto 04-06-2009 02:36 PM

^^^
Even if you're at fault, ICBC will give you the option to pay for the claim. If you pay it, then you don't get dinged on your discount.

c32 04-06-2009 02:37 PM

if i pay the deductible or the full price of the damage?

Raid3n 04-06-2009 04:50 PM

full amount of the claim.

hotjoint 04-09-2009 07:58 AM

:lol at you taking pics then him coming out.
