hit and run, found the hit and runner..

my car was parked last night, when i came out the mirror was on the ground, no damage to the car but the drivers side mirror on the ground with white peices(white from a white car), my car was red so there could be no white peices from my car.. walked up the block and what do u know theres a white car with its mirror damaged with red markings on the white cars mirror..

what i want to know is, if i report this to icbc do i gotta pay the 300 deductible? havnt made a claim to icbc yet gonna leave a note on his window? what should i do?

Edit: this was about 2-3 am last night and he/she left no note or anything.. maybe drunk driver? well could i report this to the police for hit and running? i have his mirrow and it has hints of red from my car..

Without any witnessess, it may be hard to get ICBC to waive the deductable. Take lots of pics of the white car with the damage and call ICBC. I don't know if approaching the owner of the white car will help as it is your word against theirs.

Why not call ICBC and see what they say?

ICBC might all in the both of you on the same day, have you sit in the office and bring in the other party. They may line up both cars and estimate wether or not it was him.

icbc wont use your mothers friend as a witness as she is considered biased.

take all your evidence and present it to icbc. i hope you took a lot of pictures.

No it is not illegal. You can settle it privately, but $200? Might cost you more than that to fix it at a bodyshop. Youre best to report it to ICBC now, since he pretty much admitted the guilt by paying you $200 and have the claim a claim in hand.

can't you just call the non emergency Police line, tell them your car was hit and run and you can see the car down the road?

$200 will not cover your mirror. Parts are expensive, not to mention (chargeable) labor involved.

..used parts? maybe, as long as you can find same mirror with same color out the outer cover from a junker.

Good luck finding a painted red mirror for under $200. What kind of car do you have?

Just tell him the $200 isnt enuff to cover the cost of it getting it fixed. he can either pay the invoice of the repair, or you will go through ICBC. It's not worth trying to get more money off of him. He may just go through ICBC but then you will have a mark on your car report in case you'd like to sell it in the future.

But deff dont accept the $200

He took the $200 already he said. I'd say it's too late for him.

i had this happen once, my rear bumper was scraped up. the person parking next to me in the parking garage had my paint on their bumper.

i called icbc, they brought both cars in and matched it up. i got my bumper painted with no deductible.

pricks key'd my car when they moved out though (i had to pay the deductible then because there was no way to prove they did it).

always go through ICBC. The person responsible can always pay them back to bring their premium down

Even if you're at fault, ICBC will give you the option to pay for the claim. If you pay it, then you don't get dinged on your discount.
