RCMP changes to taser rules are scary

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/03/25/taser.html

CBC News has learned that on Feb. 3, 2009, two sentences were erased from the main document that guides officers' actionsthe first limiting Taser usage to one shot and no more than 20 seconds at a time, and the second requiring officers to warn suspects before deploying a stun gun.

'If one ping-pong ball hit to the head does not kill you, 1,000 probably cannot either.'
wow. that sounds like a completely logical comparison.
who the hell allowed these changes anyways?

Definitely a logical comparison... electrifying spikes in your body and ping pong balls...

Don't act like a douche and you don't have to worry about being tazered. 99.99% of the people who are tazed deserve every second of it.

Last I checked, torture was not an acceptible punishment for crimes in Canada.

Torture. What a nice spin on words. Usually torture is reserved for things like, the rack, water torture, the judas chair. All having one common trait. That the subject be already restrained.

If you're referring to the Dziekanski's case, the tazers were used during the course of restrainment. Not after it. The usage of the word "torture" just seems inciteful in this case.

I don't know where CBC is getting their info. I am an RCMP member, I am Taser trained, and I carry my Taser every shift. It has never been our policy that we are only allowed to limit the usage to one shot.

sulos 03-26-2009 11:17 AM

Five-Oh, have you ever been tazed? Have you ever tazed anyone? When do you taze a person more than once?

Just wondering, I hear of cops that have never fired their gun but I wonder if the same is true about tazers

Five-Oh, do you have pepper spray? Can I borrow some for my scrambled eggs?

I was under the impression cops get tazed and peppersprayed as part of their training. Is this still true (@ Five-Oh)?

Yes I have been Tased. I have been trained on the Taser for almost two years and have never deployed it on anybody. You use it more than once if the situation calls for it, hard to explain since it is a case by case basis as rarely are two situations we deal with ever alike.

Five-Oh 03-26-2009 11:36 AM

And yes, we get Tased and pepper sprayed as part of our training. The Taser was easy and I would do it again if needed. You couldn't pay me enough to get pepper sprayed again, it was by far the most painful experience I have ever been through and I have had lots of injuries through years of playing hockey.

i was watchin the documentary about the guy who got tased in the vancouver airport and died. He was tased for 31 seconds through 5 intervals, does that sound appropriate?

Grandmaster TSE 03-26-2009 12:11 PM

if you don't wanna get tazed, don't do anything stupid or shady

I have been tased before and its not a big deal, wasn't painful at all, just felt like a giant muscle cramp and I was fine pretty much immediately after. Getting hit with a baton or pepper spray hurts a lot more and does more damage the large majority of the time.

Jason00S2000 03-26-2009 01:43 PM

The worst part is, when tyranny finally does come to Canada, we don't even have guns to defend ourselves.

Canada, and the USA, are both moving away from what made them great...
