I went with the DIR 655, hoping that will speed things up. Shaws coming in a few days, so I have to ride out the internet drops for awhile.

I just went and bought the same router... Tons of good reviews about it online. Figure it's time to move to N since all my laptops support it now.

How much you pay for it? FS had an online sale for $92.xx. I'm not sure if it's still on though.

Good deal. I paid $114 at NCIX. The LED's are blindingly bright in my room. I'll need to tape over them. Amazing router. The amount of configuration you can do on this is incredible. So far 0 disconnects. Moved around 20gb through it so far.

I have a WRT54G/WRT54GL bridged together, works fine. I've had the WRT54G for almost 5 years now I think, still works perfectly.

I've had issues with my dir-655 as well on older firmware. I'm on the latest one right now and so far no problems.

MSG> I had the WRT54Gv4. Worked well for many years, the wireless sucked though. Room next door could barely even get a signal.
Hondaracer> You upgraded the firmware? I found a v1.3, but for Canada it's v1.21. I personally don't need the range because everything of mine is wired, but someone mentioned that an entry level router still runs slower with wired connections. Hence why I bought this. Wireless gets used once in a blue moon.
Mikroft> You should just use www.pricebat.ca to search for that router and get NCIX to price match it. I think the lowest I found it for was $99.99. Would at least cover the taxes.

1.30 adds the usb sharing. But take note.. It drops wifi B and is not downgradable to previous firmware. I'm running 1.21. 0 problems still hardware version A4 or something 4. Was able to connect at 243mbps. Love it. I don't need range either since it's just for my basement suite. My friend has it in his house and has 0 problems also.

Don't forget, greater range also means stronger signal at closer range. Cheap B/G you could drop to 40% in the next room, while N would still give you 80% or better. Stronger signal = more reliable link = better consistent speed.

If you want more range you need a router with a bigeer amplifier. I ordered a Engenius ECB3500. It has a 600mw amp the Lnksys wrt is less than 50mw in stock form. http://www.engeniustech.com/datacom/...ls.aspx?id=257
