Pay: $10/hr (base; that's not what I make)
Description: Sit and talk with Japanese and Korean FOB students as they whine about their inability to make Canadian friends and pay you to talk to them in English.
Prereq's: Be able to speak and write english PROPERLY.

yeah shit so fucked
Just graded from SFU got a property management position but pay sucks ass, since they are chinese and real estate isn't the greatest right now. Going back to school in May to finish up my accounting.
Having a hard time to decide on what to do, I can stay at the property management and make mediocre pay, or go back to the restaurant and make a killing. Hard to say whats better in the long term in this state of the economy.

I work FT hours, but it's a bit hard to get those hours 'cause of the spotty demand and sketchtacularness of most schools.

Warehousing can be good depending on the job; if you really want to make good money with something similar to warehousing, see if you can get some longshoreman work.

well, the restaurants will always be there for a while. see if you can find something related to your studies. at best, you can always go back to the food industry as a last resort.

A) get the "japs" word out of your vocabulary
B) no guarantee on the hotties. You're much more likely to get a 40-year-old housewife here with their 10 year old kid to get a year of Canadian schooling so as (s)he can get a leg up.

The funny part was, that there were turds from my class who already were working at transit, the guys who clean the buses, one of them i swear didn't even know the difference between an extension and a deep socket and from what i know, they are all currently working as mechanics.

wow thats just messed up then. but then again, apprenticeship is to get experience in the shop as you've already taken the course. i don't see why they didn't accept you. from the mechanics i've talked to, they just told me to take the course and then apply. next time i see one, i will ask them if shop experience is also required.

we just hired 1 person recently so i assume we still are. however we require a minimum of weekends plus one weekday. thats what i've heard when school was in semester. the more available you are, the greater the chances of you getting hired. the person we just hired, i believe he had weekends plus 4 weekdays available. doesn't mean that you will get scheduled for all those days.

I know a guy who delivers newspapers/fliers by driving around Metro Van around 2-4AM and cracks around $40/hr. Factor in gas and I'd wager he's still making $30/hr for it. Only does it around two evenings a week.
Being a tutor, either Uni or High School level is an obvious one. If you're fairly busy you could just take in one student once/week. I made $18/hr teaching high school math around five years ago. I would reckon you would actually need to be in University to qualify for this but if you join many of the various tutoring agencies you could get students even if you were in first year.
