Good part time jobs out there

what are some good part time jobs out there? i would like to broaden my horizon by seeing whats out there and what people are currently working as part time. would be great if people could post their position/status and a brief job description and if any qualifications are needed. hourly wage is optional.

i currently work 2 part time jobs, one being at starbucks and one for coast mountain bus company, a subsidiary of translink.

Employer: Starbucks
Position: Barista
Location: Oakridge Food Court
Hourly: $9.56
Description: Cashier or make coffee drinks
Benefits: You get 1lb of coffee or box of tea every week.
Qualifications: Anyone in high school or higher is probably qualified.

I work about on average 15 hours here per week.

Employer: Coast Mountain Bus Company
Position: Farebox Attendant
Location: SW Marine DR and Hudson, right beside Wild Coyotes.
Hourly: $18.93
Description: Sit on your ass till a bus comes, then change the cashbox and replace it with an empty one, restock empty transfer rolls.
Benefits: Basic medical + Extended. Employee card meaning free transit rides.
Qualifications: Anyone in high school with basic communication skills, able to lift 50lbs, passing criminal records check and medical exam, valid drivers license.
NOTE: This position has 2 statuses. One being part-time regular, meaning getting full benefits with a steady schedule. Also able to opt out of medical and get paid 6% more i believe. Other being part-time casual, meaning no benefits and on call.

I work 20 hours a week here.

My farebox attendant position usually hires a couple people every summer. There has been lots of movement around and probably postings will be up soon.

with the recession here ill be glad with ANY job i have. any chancew that coast mountain place is hiring a weekend position? in return ill give you a good referal(long screening process/shitty hours/they hiring right now) for bc liqour ;) which is very hard to get in IMO my referal will help you with a chance of getting in 70% more then the other people who apply lol

Alby 04-10-2009 02:57 AM

for the coast mountain place, there are no just weekend positions. there are different locations that they may require you to work at, but the general times are starting around 5pm and can work till as late as 2am.

K-Dub 04-10-2009 03:06 AM

damn that coast mountain job sounds easy and the pay is great.
shifts start @5pm only? wouldnt the changebox need to be changed earlier in the day too?

while on the topic of busses..where do busses go to fill up?

Alby 04-10-2009 03:22 AM

pay is great, and from what i calculate, over a 4hr time span, i only work about 100seconds lol.

yes, most shifts do start at 5pm, nothing earlier. buses do not need to be changed earlier in the day since the buses comes in around 2am when we are still there to empty them. after that, there are only a few thats still in service which will be changed the next following day. buses can go on without getting their boxes done for a few days.

buses get fueled up in the yard where they come in. the yard has a diesel station for them. the only buses that gets fueled up are the buses without those 2 poles.

Nearly $80 for less than 2 mins of work. You need to think of something else you could do in that spare time to earn some money. What would sell right beside the Wild Coyote? Crack, speed, weed, coke, heroin, meth, e, GHB, mushrooms, hash.. the options are nearly limitless. :)

i'd kill for that coast mountain job if they offered it during the afternoon.
consider yourself lucky with that such an easy job w/ good benefits + wage in this economic climate

Alby 04-10-2009 10:45 AM

there is such a position in a counting house to empty big mobile safe fillled with coins. requires you to operate maybe a forklift and pour them into counting machines.

i bring my laptop and sit there stealing the work internet to pass the time LOL.

Yeah man, one of my co-workers lost their full time jobs due to the recession. I feel bad for him because it's definitely going to be a tough time.

^ wow that sucks to hear..

I just graduated from BCIT and I'm having no luck in looking for a job, the industry is basically dead this year in Vancouver

El Bastardo 04-10-2009 02:28 PM

if this job was paid at fair market value and not inflated union BS rates, we'd have a much better transit system

this is an $8 per hour job (should be less if it weren't for ridiculous minimum wages), any uneducated immigrant could do this

Alby 04-10-2009 02:47 PM

^ true enough, but because of unions and all that, this job hourly wage is so much inflated.

@EB: i thought about posting it in that topic, but this isn't really seeking or offering any job positions. i just wanted to see whats out there, but if you see fit to move it, go right ahead. i have no objections.
