Actually there are lots of 16 year olds with guns it seems. Certainly a lot who can be charged with assault. Your brother should not have brought the dog out to them, he should have gone peacefully, especially if he is innocent (which I doubt).

here's my guess at what when thru the cop's mind. cop goes to investigate 16 yr old kid with possible assualt charges. the cop is already thinking, this kid is a gangster to be. knock on the door, waited 20 sec and decide the kid is making a run for it. bust in through the yard, see the pitbull looking dog peeking its head out the dog house. the cop think holyfuck*&^*&^%ing shit the kid's got backup!!!!!! and shoots the dog.

if a cop is attending the house of a suspected violent criminal, young offender or not, you'd think they'd be prepared for the worst. they don't know who's inside and whether he or she is armed. also, as a dog owner myself, i know that a dog can be tame with its owner but when strangers enter their territory, a normally tame dog can turn vicious.

in any case, i don't want to guess at what happened. the OP has only posted what his gf has related to him. that's one side of the story. we'll have to wait for what the police have to say.

From the details you have i dont understand how you side with the cops? and why are you bashing people for being concerned about the cops actions? It is part of their job, they are in the public's eye and should be watched carefully as they have tons of power which cud easily be taken advantage of.

What do the cops do? U seen all these teens out there robbing ppl, stabbing and getting into serious crimes. What do the cops do? Nothing. They knew these ppl are going to keep doing the crime yet nothing is stopping them. Remember that teenage boy that stab someone on the skytrain the victim refuse to give the kid a smoke. Tat kid have more like 100 crimical records and the police did nothing.

This is why this city is so fucked up. i get pulled over all the time by cops for the sole reason that I am 24 years old my cars are registered to my name so they assume that there is no way I could have made money the "right" way. They give me excuses like I didn't match the description of the registered owner. They questions about where I am going etc. and if I don't answer they'll give me a VI or a ticket for some bullshit reason. I look like I'm in my 20's what part of the description did I not match? They give me options to either take some BS ticket or get searched. I take the the tickets NOT because I'm hiding something but because I don't feel like standing on the side of the road putting on a show for the losers driving by that will talk shit saying "oh drug dealer busted!!" I have had numerous situations where the cops have screwed me over. Falsely accusing me of assault, threatening to shoot my dog when he is behind a fence and they have the wrong address (then shooting my gf's dog a few months later...as you can see in this thread), constantly pulling me over to a point that I filed a complaint and hired a lawyer. Surveillance on my house and my gf's house. Following me when I leave and pulling me over within 2 blocks. Coming to my house when there were 8 guys with tasers and bats trying to rob me/kill me (I still don't know) but they arrested me for trying to use a weapon (neighbors called the cops when they saw these idiots). And they arrested one of the other guys too. (1 out of 8) but step back and look at this 8 ON 1 and I get fucken arrested at my own house!! Imagine I blew one of their heads off I'd be in jail for life. They could be beating me silly have me tied up shoving bats up my ass and if I shot one I guarantee I'd be in jail for life and they would get a RIP facebook group! Someone hit my car and took off (luckily it was a service rental), I had their license plate and full description and the cop told me they can't do anything about it. Just file an ICBC claim WTF??? hit and run and your not going to do anything about it? I can't even drive around without a fucken front plate. Shall I continue? Cops are fucking stupid idiots in this city. They are clueless and with the RCMP lowering their standards on accepting new applications shits only going to get worse. If I were in an emergency situation not even for one split second would I think about calling the police.

i find it funny that there are certain people who will always find a reason to blame the police for anything that happens. no matter how it goes down, they always shift the blame on the cops because they feel that situations could be handled better. if they were the police, they would have handled the situation differently and used better judgement.

that said, theres also the opposite. theres people who will always give the police the benefit of the doubt, regardless of the situation, without knowing more about the story. people that say, 'oh the kid was probably just a punk and the cops were defending themselves'. That has nothing to do with the police. That is the fault of the courts and the people making the laws.

The polices job is to gather evidence and then make an arrest. Then they take that evidence and the person and hand it over to prosecutors. They take the evidence and build a case. The defense (which obviously knows every loop hole in the book) takes that evidence and tries to counter everything the prosecution will say.
Dont blame the police. Blame the defense lawyers and the courts.

You say your house and your gfs house was under surveillance. Would any of your friends happen to be involved in gang activity? Do you think MAYBE if someone is the police might have them under surveillance and you have shown up a couple times in one of your flashy cars?
Dont think for a second that just cuz you have made your money legitimately doesnt mean that it might look like you could be laundering drug money through the business?

Also you say that 8 people attacked you at your home with weapons and the police only arrested you and one other person? You also say that you dont know why they were there. If it was a robbery they would have robbed you. If they wanted to attack you they would have attacked you. I dont think the whole story is being told here either.
