because cars like the LP-640 aren't meant to achieve 36 mpg.

Do some maths, and you'll know why Ferrari isn't even slightly affected at all....

Ferrari = part of Fiat, with Fiat coming into the economy, they can certainly "average" a 35.5mpg by selling loads of Fiat 500 hahaha.

Fleet mileage, not individual car mileage. Selling diesel cars here would help too....like Lupo TDI 3L/100km....

Funny thing. The more fuel-efficient and cleaner-burning we make cars, the worse they are for greenhouse gases.

Well, he was elected in November of 2008 and assumed office in January 2009, and IF he is elected for an extension of a 4 year term, well you do the math.

He will still very much be around.

isn't this more like 35.5mpg average for each manufacturer? So they could have a gas gazzler/high performance car, then have a small Electric car to compensate for it.

if they have an electric car, how does it work? how many mpg? do they just put random numbers like 10,000mpg?

It counts as zero because it uses no gas.

With Obama controlling what vehicles auto makers are manufacturing now, can anyone see him release a vehicle similar to the Nazi Beetle?

I hate Hitler references, but the evidence is the writing on the wall.
Writing on the wall?

Hitler committed genocide, Obama's trying to increase fuel efficiency.

It's an average for each manufacturer, for cars built in that year forward.

But anyway, good point. That Beetle sure was a failure. *snicker*

by that as long as they have one electric car they can make anything they want haha.

I think they'll have some rating based on the countries electricity production (how much CO2 is produced per kW) or something

Regardless, the government has billions of dollars all ready to go to get the domestic industry back on its feet. To a lot of people, including myself, that isnt exactly chump change.

Thats a good question. It can be a pretty wide margin that will probably be worked out and amended over time. Who knows? Last time I checked a Mustang GT almost achieves these numbers on the Canadian side of things. Rowing through the gears to beat the rush through the Port Mann? Obviously not.

On an unrelated note, if my memory serves me right, a Fortune magazine article from a couple months ago further emphasizes a very challenging future for the established industry. The article presented a Chinese company apparently capable of producing 'fuel efficient' cars at a price of maybe $20,000; some of which was under Warren Buffett's portfolio.

At this moment, the Mercedes Ion-Lithium technology seems capable to do the job.
