If you're in the market for a performance car, better get one soon.

Timpo 05-19-2009 10:45 AM

so...what's gonna happen to Lamborghini, Pagani, Bugatti, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Maybach, Bentley, GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc?

hk20000 05-19-2009 10:46 AM

greenhouse effect is bs. But lighter more efficient cars are welcome. I want a brand new kei car if that's ever going to be available in this administration.

Timpo 05-19-2009 10:48 AM

speaking about kei cars, why don't we have one in Canada and US?

Meowjin 05-19-2009 10:53 AM

more like we're running out of gas.

hk20000 05-19-2009 10:56 AM

market demand + crash test failure against SUVs and stuff.

+1
no one is going to drive a small ass car when there are so many SUVs and trucks on the road

I'd definitely welcome gas electric sport cars. Fuel sipping on everyday commute but high performance when needed.

Timpo 05-19-2009 11:51 AM

I think there is enough market demand for kei cars.

also crashing with SUV...isn't that same thing as smart car?

Eastwood 05-19-2009 12:04 PM

Bye Bye Ferrari.

penner2k 05-19-2009 12:52 PM

I think what you will see happen with Ferrari and other performance cars is they will have different settings on the ECU.
One will be called street which will be extremely detuned to get the MPG they need and then another called race which will double the power.

What is that going to do, shutdown ten cylinders and run on two?

haha, I bet even that won't get a Ferrari to do more than 35.5MPG...

shenmecar 05-19-2009 01:27 PM

Wait is this gonna apply to every car? Or will their be a special tax you will be required to pay to drive high-end cars like Ferrari?

With Obama controlling what vehicles auto makers are manufacturing now, can anyone see him release a vehicle similar to the Nazi Beetle?

I hate Hitler references, but the evidence is the writing on the wall.

ilvtofu 05-19-2009 03:21 PM

35MPG isn't that unachievable especially with a decent amount of time. And that ECU idea sounds like it makes sense, as long as they don't monitor whether u use it or not

so Lamborghini and Ferrari would just shut off 10 cylinders out of V12 and run it with 2?

hk20000 05-19-2009 03:37 PM

cylinder deactivation technology is very possible....And then Ferrari had always been talking about some kind of power recovery system and a possible hybrid performance package....

So they should be very set to make the changes.....Smaller exotic firms on the other hand....?

68style 05-19-2009 03:59 PM

This won't kill sports cars or Lambo's or Ferrari's or anything... just a bigger gas guzzler tax slapped on top just like there is today on any car that doesn't meet today's EPA standards. I'm sure they're will also be loopholes (which Lotus and others have used previously in the U.S.) to allow for manufacturers of vehicles sold in such small volumes that it doesn't matter for them anyway...

ilvtofu 05-19-2009 04:06 PM

exactly achieving 36mpg highway is pretty easy even with 4 cyls let alone 2

WTF are you talking about?! This is what automakers need, a real incentive to produce more efficient cars. How exactly does this make Obama similar to Hitler?

get your head on straight.
