1. $38 is cheap for a repair. It's cheap for an on-site an estimate. It's cheap for anything that needs fixing, really.
2. The service was horrible. No question. Inexcusable.
3. People like options. I would have given her an option. I would have told her that it's $38 for the advice or $80 for an on-site service call with no advice. Her call.

Maybe his frustration stemmed from the fact that he felt he had to trick your mother to get payment because it was his only means to obtain payment from your mother.

It's not like we'll ever get to hear the other side of the story nor will you say your mom was trying to gyp him of his payment.

Since were talking semantics he did say $8 to find out what was wrong which he did. Another $30 to tell your mother his diagnosis.

His tact was way off, he should have just did whatever every other repair guy does and fixed something that didn't need fixing, bill her $150 and call it a day.

LOL at Turbo E's editing of the horrible rant.

Reading such shitty English reminded me of a note someone keyed into a desk at UBC Angus (commerce bldg): "HK FOBS shouldn't be allowed into Comm; I can't understand what they're saying!"

For reference, I speak Cantonese perfectly.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Seems resonable to me he didnt just look at you're refridgerator, he went to school for however long to learn how to repair it, he then was trained by a company. In my opinion thats cheap! Think about it, a diag for ur car at a shop would be $100+ so why is $30 so bad for some1 who came to ur house?

C5_Ryder 05-25-2009 01:53 PM

I work in the Hvac industry.

Its $75 an hour, callout is 1 hour(depending on location). Its $75 before I even look at it.

consider yourself lucky.

yeah man, i dont see the problem.

he did the job. your mom was just unhappy that the problem was so simple and didn't warrant 30dollars. she prolly felt she should've gotten it for free or just $8. Which is what a NICE person would do. But nothing says he has to be nice. In fact, he didnt lie. He was the opposite. He was extra extra honest.

Aetios 05-25-2009 05:24 PM

Is your mom hot?

nipples 05-25-2009 06:19 PM

this totally reminds me of a friend who used to have a repairman come to their house every week to fix the waterfall fountain/fish thing in the house. the mechanical guts were in the garage and i watched once as i was interested in it. All the dude was doing was in there smoking a cigarette, talking on the phone, n playing around. Then he takes the hoses he brought with him n leaves. but not before collecting $150 from my friend. This happens every week. The problem would be fixed for a few hours, then break down and he'd come back again.

I told my friend about it but wasn't believed by the parents, so i played around n really fixed it. I should get the number of their repair man n have him be my mentor LOL

Which repair guy would drive out to a customer's house and spend at least 1/2 hr of his time for $8?

Your a bitch for complaining go and look in the yellow pages and call up any company they probably charge you more for even coming to your place. Its ovs a bad way to not be up front but still dude think about all the gas and money to run the company. Fuck i do construction for a living and i go out to peoples places for free and i give them quotes the next day, you dont think that cost me money? suck it up dude and dont come to the internet and rant about how much your mom spent. go live on your own and start your own company and then come back, then you'll probably know what life really is.

slammer111 05-26-2009 06:42 PM

Just wondering, did your mom call the repair guy a racist name or something? I don't know the full story but I'm guessing something must've set him off. Perhaps your mom bitched loudly to him about the price? The reason why I say that is that in most cases, most working people don't piss at customers unless they were pissed at first.

And yeah, $38 is cheap. My mom once paid (without consulting me first, go figure) $200 for a guy to push the reset button on our garburator (sp?), which died soon after. A new one was $170 at Home Depot, which I installed for $0 and took less than an hour.

Moral of the story: You call out some guy, you pay their rates. OP, you got off EASY.

Nvasion 05-26-2009 07:00 PM

hustla baby!

pandalove 05-26-2009 08:31 PM

nooo noooooooo
once again and i have said this many times and i know why some of you responded the way you did but i am not ranting about the cost
i am ranting about the manner he display and that he wasn't honest about his rates
if he said its 30 to come check then i would have nothing to say its about it being cheap its not about the money
its that he justified that he should get that amount because he could've lied to my mother in order to get it

jas_daddy 05-27-2009 09:56 AM

you get what you pay for i guess.... pay someone 30 dollars to fix the problem and provide rude service or pay someone 80 dollars to fix the problem and be polite about it....
kinda like asian restaurants.... cheap food, shitty service
