Something seriously wrong with BC's driving education / culture I was having this discussion in other forum: Is it just me or there is a blatant failure in BC's driving education and cluture? Take Richmond for example, Alot of Chinese immigrants in Richmond really can't drive for shit, its a known fact. But, if you ever visit Taiwan, China or Hong Kong, where these immigrants come from, you will be amazed at the driving / parking skills people have there. In Taiwan I have seen alot of people park within literally milimeters bumper to bumper and never scratch. Also people react very quickly to changing traffic lights and move / stop accordingly. The traffic flow is much more smooth there. Once you are back in Canada you feel the streets are filled with idiots who are not only slow (wait for couple seconds after green lights) and stupid (stopping on a green light for no particular reasons), regardless Chinese or not. When the light turn green, theres always cars that had to hestitate for a bit and then move on, and then the car behind it would often takes moments to respond and the move on. The result is letting go maybe just 10 cars in a green light while there are literally over 50 cars stuck behind. I have also seen a news from Germany that on autobahn, although the traffic speed there is very high, traffic death and injuries are much lower comparing to North American highways. another reason why we cant have no speed limits here. What is wrong here? |
they are high |
Just the lower mainland. You don't get this kind of excessive stupidity in the rest of the province. Just the regular kind. |
u know what, its just fucking vancouver that cant drive shit. Dont know how to merge, nor change lanes. U go down to the states, people there at least know the basics...GET THE FUCK OUT of the fast lane  i give up driving in Van long ago. not to mention our fucking cyclists that deserves to be run over, yup i said it. Every single one of them in downtown |

It's not perfect but frankly the courtesy culture that's supposed to be endorsed by our system is much better than an all-out, look only for yourself, don't let anybody lane change to your lane, don't even bother fucking signaling because it's too troublesome, aggressive-mario-andretti type driving you're looking for. Just because you can see someone do 160+ kph and weaving in and out of traffic with the smallest margin of vehicular space doesn't mean you're a good driver. It means you're probably an accident waiting to happen. Oh, and there's probably a valid reason why you're license is suspended right now. I seriously don't buy the reason that you're asking for advise for your brother's behalf and his gf. |
nor can they see a bright fucking yellow car when they park. i've honestly lost count how many times i've been hit and run. my bumpers have so many random dents, chips, scratches, scrapes |

And in said thread, "his brother's" girlfriend can't even park the car. |
god, yesterday i was heading down Westminster and some car filled with girls turning on an intersection on 5rd decide it would be a great idea to turn right after another car just before I entered the intersection. Have people in Richmond really lost a sense of judgment to be able to determine what is safe and what is not? Are people blind? I had to slam on the brakes and skid to a stop just to not hit them! Mind you I was following the speed limit. |
I'm in HK and I can tell you that they don't necessarily drive better than 604ers. Why would I say that? Because only a very very small fraction of people in HK regularly operates a motor vehicle. Compared to Vancouver where everyone goes out to get a DL and a car too expensive/complex for their own good you have a chance to sample "what if all the people drive" scenario in Vancouver. Whereas in Asia, you either LOVE driving (that means you are good at it, usually) or you do it for a living (you BETTER be good at it).... There's that issue of "sampling the population" in statistics here.... |
Our country is too lax about driving tests. They need to be harder, driving is a privilege not a right. I have noticed drivers are much worse here, yet I blame part of that on lack of a major highway to get places. After 30 mins in traffic even I'm frustrated with the stop-go and more likely not to pay attention. |

And two, life is much faster-paced in Asia. People in North America (with the exception of New York, and a handful of major cities) generally take things much slower. Finally, our licensing tests are way too easy. |
I remember reading an ICBC article a year ago and it showed the top 10 highest accident spots in their covereage area. And Richmond either had 1 or no locations at all. I don't recall seeing any accidents in the Richmond area for a while when I am in that city. I do notice that people there can't really park into the tight stalls, and that they are very cautious when driving. |
You can't blame all bad driving in the Lower Mainland on Asian drivers because there’s enough bad driving around here to spread to other minorities and white drivers. And imo I find that White drivers are the most aggressive and more likely to engage in road rage compared to some 50 year old Asian woman who doesn't shoulder check. |

thats funny, i grew up on the BC driving system and i dont need someone else to park my lifted jeep in mall lots for me. its not the systems problem its yours, if you are so bad at driving you arent comfortable parking then you really shouldnt be. fucking entitlement really pisses me off. "blah blah blah, i cant drive and i dont have a fucking clue, it MUST be someone else's fault" |

You have cars running red lights, turning left when the light turns red.. not one car.. but like 4 lol. every one seems to be blind to the fact that theres other ppl on the road. I'd have to rate worst parkers are in the lowermainland. My bumpers on my car were so beat up from ppl hitting my car n driving off w/o a note or anything. And ya.. worst drivers are from kelowna, so if u head down this way.. make sure u have good insurance, or a rental  |

why dont you go back to Europe instead? I am merely doing a comparision of the driving skills here and you have to bring the racial question out. As long as the Canadian government needs money they will welcome rich immigrants with open arms. dont like it? move to alberta to be with your kind. Racist pricks like you shouldnt even be on here. The accident of my brother is a true story and if its my own incident I wouldnt hesistate to say its myself. Its the internet theres nothing to be ashamed of. |
BC driving lic laws are fucked up, somebody from japan or india can exchange thr lic. and get a full BC lic. Even though they fucking drive on the wrong side of the road. THats totally fucked up. in Ont. somebody from japan and ind. has to go through g1, g2 all over . thats just wrong.. imo |
I don't really have anything to add to this thread, but I will say that female Asian drivers are the worst. Also anyone defending Asian drivers (not male) in this thread saying they are good drivers are fucking idiots. Seriously. Obviously I'm white BTW. |
just lower mainland.. T_T i go to chilliwack and further.. and its fine. people know what theyre doing. |

And I agree with Mugen EvOlutioN, as soon as you cross the border, you'll notice the driving courtesy right away. Americans actually know why theres a slow and fast lane, and they use them accordingly. |
