The 18-year-old was taken back into custody last Thursday after violating his bail conditions.
“There was an allegation that he breached one of his conditions to not have contact with one of the people on the list,” his lawyer David Karp told The Province.
“He describes him as one of his best friend, that’s the irony of the breach.”
Karp said the student personally contacted his office last week, seeking to have the condition lifted. That never happened.
The boy was originally arrested on May 29 for allegedly naming 117 people, 73 of them students and staff at Templeton, in a “hit list” on his Facebook profile.
A cache of weapons was found inside his home, including a sawed-off shotgun, a machete, a sword and two collapsible batons.
He was granted a $50,000 bail surety in June under specific conditions. The conditions included restrictions on carrying weapons, staying away from Vancouver School Board property and not contacting those named on the alleged “hit list.”
Karp said his client was “finally getting things back” before this alleged breach.
The teen had been working at Vancouver’s PNE and had just graduated high school after completing a biology course through correspondence.
He is enrolled to study life sciences at Simon Fraser University starting next week, but will be in custody pending a bail hearing on Sept. 10.
