Vancouver police have arrested an 18-year-old Templeton Secondary School student after a 'hit list' containing 117 names was posted on the Internet.

Police seized a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, a combat knife, sword, machete and two batons from his home over the weekend, police announced Monday. Police also seized a computer from the residence.

The student is under arrest and is facing numerous weapons charges.

Vancouver police describe it as the most serious incident of its type that they've investigated.

Alarmed students on Friday night called 911 to report the list. Later that same evening, about 11:15 p.m., police arrested the student without incident.

The student cannot be named because some of the crimes were allegedly committed before he turned 18. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

About a dozen investigators were at Templeton Secondary Monday.

"The police have a duty to inform all of the more than 100 people whose names appeared on the alleged hit list," a police statement said.

The police team includes members of the youth services unit, school liaison unit, operationsinvestigation section, major crime section, and technology crimes unit.

Vancouver teen arrested with 'hit list' of students

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Police believe they prevented a school shooting, with the arrest of a Grade 12 student at Templeton Secondary School in East Vancouver. Police say the student had a 'hit list' with 117 names on it. So far 71 of those names have been identified as students or staff at the school.

Six students came forward on Friday, calling police about another student with a 'hit list' that had been posted on Facebook. VPD arrested the 18-year-old student at his home late Friday night, and seized a shotgun, ammunition, knives and a machete from the teenager's home. Seven weapons-related charges have been laid.

The student in custody cannot be named because some of the crimes were allegedly committed before he turned 18. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Vancouver Police call it a 'very disturbing' incident, one of the most serious they've ever seen in the city.

VPD investigators conducted interviews at Templeton Secondary this morning as part of an ongoing investigation into potential threats. The student is not previously known to police. It doesn't appear that anyone else will be charged in relation to the plot.
