Scion TC sets FWD record while rocking TWO spoilers "" At the recent Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs Chris Rado dominated in the front-wheel drive Unlimited class posting a 1:22.623 lap time - setting a new record for a front-wheel drive vehicle at the track. How did he do it? Isn’t it obvious? He stuck a ridiculous looking wing on the front of his tC race car, giving those front tires all the downforce they need. The car is pushing 700hp, 700ft/lbs and weighs a measly 2200 lbs We’re certain all the other competitors laughed at him… while he sprayed them with champagne from the top of the podium. "" the video is a must see, lots of awesome cars http://videos.streetfire.net/video/R...-at_685994.htm http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/d/55387-4/IMG_3590.jpg http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/d/55378-4/result1.jpg http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/d/55395-4/IMG_3653.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/...28042048_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3609/...4efe2af0_b.jpg I would like to hear all the ricer comments right about now. |
oh wow, i guess it actually works well. |
^ yes, technically speaking it's a whole lot of explaining, but in basics Chris simply said that he had so much proper grip, he couldn't oversteer or understeer the car if he wanted too. |
o wow wtf ahah |
wow, will this be a new trend then? |
OK....ordering GT wing off Ebay now.... |
what amazes me is that he shaved 5 seconds off his last years lap time at this same track, the car was basically the same setup minus the wing. 5 seconds is a huuuuuuuuuge gap |
The start of a new ricer trend |
|
This is why you don't race FWD ;). Reminds me of this BMW ad: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6...gab70cbbf1.jpg http://ettf.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/Rabbit_0.jpg You can't power oversteer a FWD car on-throttle anyways. |
lol reminds me of the Phoniex Power spoiler for the mr2! http://www.madpsi.net/Aero-kits/Impo...%20-%20PP1.jpg |
^ http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2007/06...vette-ls1.html that's your kinda car :p rwd does have a advantage then fwd but this proves a ricer wing works |
I guess this is going to be the new Fad. Huge Shopping cart wings comming to the front end of every honda near you!!! |

man.. what... LOL.. i just hope.. i just hope. i dun start seeing preludes and civics >.> |
does anyone remember the front wings on Lamborghini Countachs? |

When taken to the logical limits of race car engineering, RWD (or AWD in some cases) is the way to go. |

on a serious note, ive seen guys call track cars with GT wings ricers. because its obviously just for looks |

Regardless, funny add. Z3Guy, your right, doesn’t mean anything, because the rules of the categories they race in dictate what they can and cannot do to the cars, those same rules put the BMW in the same class as the ACURA cars. I guess thats "understanding" racing? If you watched those series, you would realize it probably had more to do with the drivers than the cars that series, and NOTHING to do with it being FWD vs RWD, which is sort of the point I was trying to make. I havent watched the series in a long time (not even sure whats happening with it right now) but Kleinubing was a MONSTER! I can see that was lost in my above post. |
That looks ridiculous |
wow there was a thread last week and everyone was making fun of it. now im just flabbergasted |
This is almost the anti-ricer. Something that is as effective as it is horrendously ugly. All go, no show. |
As much as an eye-sore that front GT wing is, having it on to shave off 5 seconds is huge. |
Those BMW ads remind me of an old Honda commercial. It had a bunch of huskies trying to PUSH a dogsled and saying something about how it doesn't make sense. Can't find it for the love of me though. I was wondering if the same downforce could be achieved by using an extremely over-sized bug/rock deflector or a front splitter aimed downwards. |
