^ive got this one, except the Platinum version. No fees, and 1% back with a bunch of other stuff. The platinum one isnt publicly listed, I think you just have to call in and ask them to upgrade it once you have the regular Enrich.

Tough decision

So that MBNA credit card will give you a check every time you reached an accumulated $50 cashback? I was wondering how cashback works. What gas stations/groceries places are eligible for cashback?

thanks! that's what i meant haha

basically for a card with no fees, getting 1% back is pretty good. If you spend quite a bit per month, then maybe it might be worth getting a card with fees and 2% back or w/e benefit it offers...u should just take a look at how much you spend, and see the return vs. cost over the course of a year, voila

also have a detailed look at the fine print. A lot of cards that offer something like 2% back require you to spend a certain amount before it kicks in. So if you're paying $20 in fees, and getting 2% cash back, but have to wait until you spend your first $20,000 maybe it's not worth it. I have a theory that no matter what card you get, it'll even out to the same cost and return lol

TD Infinite First Class VISA

MBNA SmartCash Mastercard - these guys send you a cheque for $50 automatically once you accumulate enough points. I've been using this card for nearly two years now (I think) and I LOVE it. The bonus 3% cashback even works when you buy gas in the states! It's just too bad the 5% for gas/groceries was only for the first 6 months.

My 3 Credit Cards:

3) CIBC Dividend
First credit card I have as I have bank accounts with them. The were the bank of choice because they were one of the biggest in Canada and has the most amount of ATM machines. That means convenience. It is supposedly a 1% cash back card, but if you real the fine prints, you do not get a full 1% for every dollar you spend.

2) CIBC Bizline
Simply because I have a business card with them as well. Gotta like a card with company name on it! I only use it for business transactions obviously.

1) President's Choice MasterCard
My credit card of choice! First of all I need at least 1 Visa and 1 MasterCard, as CIBC is a Visa, I needed this MC. Their bank accounts are great for younger teenagers as they have unlimited transaction and no fees. Their MC gives a full 1% value in PC points for every dollar you spend. It may not be cash, but there is always sometime to be bought in Superstore. It is also a Pay Pass card, which is nice because I have been paying by "magic" at Tim Horton's, by swapping my wallet. I pay almost everything with it; $10 per $1000 you spend aren't bad.

At the end of the day, this is what I've learned as I've studied numerous cards: you can't out smart and out math bankers. So don't think that any card can be marginally more advantageous than another, it all depends on your use! Bottom line is if you are a regular Joe or Jane, expect 1% value back in form of a credit that can be used most often by your life style, and that's all.

P.S: Don't even bother with 2% of 3% cards. Their conditions usually give more restrictions than benefits, but go ahead and read all the different % back for different categories.

Nobody is trying to out math bankers. We get all these benefits such as cash back using credit card only because there are enough idiots who are willing to pay 20% on interest on their purchased items.

Some banks offer better benefits to attract customers mainly because their brand isn't as established as some of the biggest banks here like CIBC, TD, RBC, BMO, etc.

Seems to me the MBNA one is a no brainer if you are looking for cash back. I honestly don't see anything better than cash back unless you are often flying and into air miles stuff. Gathering points when they can only be redeemed for some crappy gifts or spent on certain things is useless. Cash > all forms of points to me.

So far I don't see any conditions being restrictive on MBNA card, so maybe you can point it out for me.

MBNA smart cash: works on every single gas station here, and pretty much every single grocery stores, even the bizarre ones such as Mac's convenience stores, Yaohan, T&T, "Supermarket 2000", "City Fresh", etc.

It really is a no brainer. If you want cash back, it is the card to get.

Are there real advantage for cards that have annual fees? So far I've never paid any annual fees on my cards. But if so many ppl r paying annual fees, there must be some real benefits.

lots of fine print, but with the avion you get quite a bit for the $120 a year

Between RBC Infinite Avion ($120) and TD Infinite First Class (free w/ Select Service account) which one would be better off in terms of concierge/CSR stuff?

I am looking at either one of them and I have the TD select service account so the RBC Infinite is out of pocket for me.

I'm going to BCIT in January and turning 19 in February so I'm going to need a student credit card. Which one do you guys recommend?

Also do you guys think it is better to pay my school fees with a credit card or get a student loan?
I don't know anything about a student loan or how to get one.

That's not a question you even need to ask. Student loans by a long shot. You don't have to pay interest until you're out of school whereas with a visa you're gonna get smacked with 20% interest per year. Just google bc student loans and you'll find the government site where you can apply. The only problem is you will probably need your parents to send in supplementary forms as you most likely haven't been out of high school for 4 years.

Yeah, it's made of titanium. One of my uncles in Taiwan has one, so freaking awesome, complimentary upgrades on several airlines, free lounge access along with some free limo from wherever to airport/year.

According to him, the trick is easy, he used to charge all the company related expenses that can be paid with CC on a single card, he has been log-ing some serious amount on his card because he's a sucker for CC rewards. And then he just get reimbursed by his own company... when you charge most of travel/company expenses of almost EVERY employee, it's not really a difficult task.

Basically use a personal account to log a company expenses.

I used to dream that by the age of 40, I want to get a Ferrari or some supercar in that category, but now the dream is to be offered a Centurion card without the company trick.

Unless it's your own company i think it would be fairly hard to convince a company to pay the 5K fee or w/e
