e brake when parked?

you guys pull the e brake up when you park on a flat road with auto tranny?

i know for sure for manual cars you need the e brake up all the time when parked to prevent rolling.

ilvtofu 07-02-2009 09:27 PM

nope just stick it in park, except for in the smart car when you don't have a park :( my mom has rolled her car into several objects...

Always e-brake with my car though, Don't feel secure without it, even though i know it won't go anywhere if i stick it in gear, at least i don't pull out chocks

GordonTse 07-02-2009 09:28 PM

even with manual tranny you dont need the ebrake. just stick it in gear. i personally leave it in gear + ebrake(manual tranny)

If you've ever sen that tiny pin of "Park", you would use your ebrake.

Exactly. Even with a manual transmission, I still put my ebrake on.

i know some ppl never use the ebrake when parked...even on a massive hill.

i put my ebrake on all the time, and i can still feel the car move a bit when i park on a steep hill

!Aznboi128 07-02-2009 11:12 PM

i put it in neutral and put the e-brake on let go of the brake so the e-brake catches then put it in park.

thats cause the car shifts downhill to take up the slack on the ebrake.

it's dangerous to park without using the ebrake. it's there for a reason, and that reason is not for drifting. in an automatic transmission "park" is not invincible. that little pin can snap so easily, and there goes ur car.

Euro7r 07-02-2009 11:45 PM

Wasn't there one guy on RS awhile back, I think that he put his car into gear and e-brake to park. His car rolled and crashed into a parked car still.

JSALES 07-02-2009 11:46 PM

i always put the e-brake up. they even tell you to do it on your road test when you park, don't they?

lilaznviper 07-02-2009 11:48 PM

yes when you do the road test they tell you no matter where you park always use e break

ToyotaPowah 07-02-2009 11:51 PM

I always use my e-brake when parking in my Si and any other car.

MikesJo 07-02-2009 11:57 PM

It's there for a reason :).

k20a 07-03-2009 12:00 AM

Even for the manual transmission guys, when you park, you should leave it in gear + ebrake.

skyxx 07-03-2009 12:12 AM

I put mines in Gear, pull the e-brake and turn my steering wheel all the way (all the way to the left if it's uphill).

On a second note, remember to do a brake inspection especially on drum brake systems. Sometimes you need to calibrate it(adjust the shoes) so the Parking brake actually works. I don't know how many times I've driven cars that can still move at a fast pace even with the parking brake all the way up!!! It's crazy.....

lilkulit 07-03-2009 01:05 AM

i always put my e brake all the time when parked. i remember when the guy used to live on our basement forgot to put his e brake and his brand new accord rolled into my neigbour's fence, messed up his rear bumper really bad.

Nightwalker 07-03-2009 03:19 AM

I always set the ebrake when parked, force of habit now.

tonyvu 07-03-2009 03:47 AM

i pull that e-brake no matter what.

/thread. If you don't use e-brake, you are a lazy fool.

thumper 07-03-2009 06:33 AM

i still remember my driving instructor telling me that to always think of it not as an emergency brake, but as a parking brake, so that you get into the habit of using it when parking and not for bootleg turns or initial-e wannabe drifts :p

kknater 07-03-2009 06:50 AM

Also! if your car is getting towed, it'll give you another couple minutes while the guy is trying to break into your car to release it. True story, happened to me.

meh. i wasn't so lucky... they just dragged mine out of the parking space and put the back end on dollies and didn't even bother with breaking in. tilt sensor went off on my alarm and it kept going off until my battery died

josel_atr 07-03-2009 07:38 AM
